I have no practical reason why, but it is bothering me that I can't find this. In the movie, there is a song that plays shortly on the little boy's (Barry) record player. It's during that scene when his mom is asleep and her TV is on - then suddenly Barry's toys power on (firetruck, a toy man who's pants fall down, etc). His little record player turns on and there is a female voice singing something like, "In the shape of a square, if you really want to know." It's one of those children's learning records. If you grew up during those times in the USA, you probably remember this or similar products. I'm on a mission to find this dang song. Why? Heck if I know. But don't worry, what happened to me in my truck at a railroad crossing the other night had nothing to do with it. Nor does the moonburn on the left side of my face.
I've been looking on IMDB and YouTube for clues, but so far no luck. Any ideas? This means something . . . er, I mean, I'm just casually curious.

Wow, you've got me stumped on that one! Check out the IMDB trivia section for the movie. That may have an answer.

This is going to drive me nuts too, so I leave you with just this, which you have probably seen already. Has the song in the background. Interesting interview too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wppB5mD5XE&feature=relatedI can't find that part of the scene, only the abduction to see it, but it sounds to me like one of those playskool record players with those huge thick plastic records. Or one that came with a book.\

Oh, that "look in care for the shape of a square..." song? Yeah, that is memorable as being a sign of alien presence. good luck! let us know what you find.

What I find impressive about Spielberg is that he made 2 films with benevolent aliens that turned out to be very good films at both the critical and commercial level. As a general rule, movies with "nice" aliens do poorly.

AWESOME!!! Thanks Bigmathews! And Ajay, weirdness should remain unexplained. I will say that I am such a huge fan of this movie that even the most trivial matters are interesting. Now to get that song into my iPod collection.

Yup! There's just something sexy about the original, analog oldschool hardware.

Yup! There's just something sexy about the original, analog oldschool hardware. Knobs! There is something natural about using both hands to tweak little protuberances. (.)(.)
