Usually I'm airborne dropping bombs, rockets etc on any land targets, but I'm feeling the need to get down and dirty. Don't know much about what tank sims are available (doesn't seem a lot) but I came across this on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/PANZER-ELITE-COLLE...;sr=1-1-catcorr

Panzer Elite Collection. Seems interesting, certainly seems to cover a variety of Theatres. Worthwhile? Or should I be looking for something else? Any suggestions very welcome. smile2

That's not a tank sim- that looks like Panzer Elite Action renamed or something. It's a third person action game. Follows the same formula as many others such as Tiger Hunt: the interface and mechanics look the same.

It all depends about what you are looking for and the level of involvement.

It can go from a Tank Simulation that will involve most of the procedure a real armor vehicle can encounter, to an online game where u need 3 online gamers per vehicle, to something much more simple as the panzer elite you mentioned which is more like a Arcade game. There is nothing wrong with all the different level of technicality, it all depends about what you really want your experience to be.

Pm "Magnum50", he is an Authority in that field and will direct you toward a couple of game names or someone that knows well what you would like to experience.

Good luck and enjoy the search!

For modern tanks, there is basicly this one:

www.steelbeasts.com

There you get a good taste of mechnized warfare. If I count correctly 8 playable(with crew positions) tank and a #%&*$# of playable IFV/other vehicles. There is also a lifely online community and frequent games...

Here's a link to the sbwiki page. gives a good overview about the game, how to get/use a demo and some detailed info about
the vehicles and how they are modeled in the game.

Panzer Elite Collection was released by Nordic Games, the new owners of the PE copywrite, and contains all of the titles released by JoWooD under the banner Panzer Elite. PESE is included and updated to version 1.2. All mods that I could obtain authorization from the authors are updated to the last version, including PEx release 1.0. The PESE mod enabler is updated to tell which mods will work together. To date, I have passed on combining the graphics of PEA with PEx because the old PEx team was not interested and attempts to creat a new commercial team have failed.

I continue to work on the PEx game engine as a hobby.

Cheers guys, appreciate the answers.

So it would seem that "Panzer Elite Collection" is the original game plus several mods? That sounds all right then. May as well give it a try. Hope it has a good campaign, that can be p[layed from several sides.

The only other WWII sim I see around is Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942. Recommended?

I agree with Magnum, Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942 is a must have.

Panzer Elite Collection contains PE 1.5, all of the mods for PE 1.5, Pex 1.0 for PE. and both Panzer Elite Action titles(not sims).

Panzer Elite Special Edition is PE 1.5 with the mods avalible in 2001. I do not know if Nordic Games has updated the version avalible at GOG.com. if not, all of the mods for Panzer Elite (not Panzer Elite Action) are avalible as free downloads.

Soooo.... are you saying that the Panzer Elite Collection is better value than Panzer Elite Special Edition? Given that I'm after a tank sim, not arcade game. Cheers smile2

If you don't mind downloading the mods, PESE from GOG is the best value.

Cheers. Apprecite the PE recommendation. smile2

Have been searching all over the Net for Steel Fury. No luck. it is available for d/load via Amazon.com, but only for US customers. It's also available from Amazon.uk in DVD format, but (for some odd reason) not availabel for shipping to Oz. sigh

Have to try ebay I guess.

It is available at amazon for download only. Simply type in 'Steel Fury' on amazon's site and it should pull up the link.

Yes, I see that now. I was replying to an earlier post, but it would have been better to have read through the whole thread before posting.
Am glad to see he can get it at gamersgate.

Steel Fury is undeniably great and more modern but I also reoommend Panzer Elite - despite its age - because dedicated guys like Brit44Aldo, Slomo and others have modernised and improved that game beyond belief and given it a second life.
