Does anyone know (since they left out the tutorials when updating BS) where I can get tutorials? I'm pretty sure there are some on Youtube...but I was wondering about actual in-game tutorials - like the original game had?

Ta

Oh - and anyone have a startup sheet like the several kicking about for the A-10? I totally acknowledge I'm being a little bit lazy here by not making one up myself - but then why re-invent the wheel - rithg?

Thx again

They were track based. But they updated the game at some point and broke the training tracks (not compatible new version) and never bothered to fix it. So yeah, YouTube or bust for those. They weren't that great anyway.

The DCS manual has the best procedure if not the best presentation for use. I have the Leading Edge checklist which looks like the manual one. It's a better presentation, maybe not the best for printing.

Thx Frederf.

I have the ring bound manual - so I'll check it out - but I'm pretty sure it wasn't obvious to me how to start the thing - but I'll look through it again.

I guess I should use the PDF manual rather than the ring bound? As I guess the dpf has been updated (I have BS2) - or has nothing changed in the startup? I'd rather use the ring bound if possible.

I don't think anything has changed except now airbases are real frequencies instead of all being on 121.5 Mhz. I found some old checklists including one I wrote. I'm in the process of redoing it. The DCS manual procedure is good but a little wonky in terms of repeating steps or order of operation.

I'm just being lazy. I did a startup guide for A-10 and wondered if I could save myself some time.

There are two problems with the manual and it's startup procedure...
1. It's all key based. I am looking for something I have done for DCS - where you click the buttons and even though there is a descriptive with the name of the control, I've found a couple of times the name of the control differs to that in the manual - so it's not really clear that it's the right control. The other issue is no graphics to pinpoint the control to be activated
2. I performed the manual startup last night and it didn't work. Admittedly, I didn't go through the pre-engine start sequence which may have had something to do with it...but after going through the startup procedure in the manual, my engines were not running.

I guess it must be working as other people use it I suppose...do you think it was not performing the pre-startup checks that made it fail? The reason I didn't bother doing the pre-startup checks was because I just assumed the aircraft would be sitting with everything ready to start (I get the importance of this procedure for real pilots by the way)

Ah you're looking at Chapter 12. Chapters 9 and 10 in the manual don't have a single keystroke listed. Different versions and 3rd party cockpit mods will change switch name. I agree that approximate entries in checklists are less useful. I do know where all the switches are so I find the ones that describe it's location too verbose.

Not testing systems do not make them fail. I think there is a random failure setting. There are also a few steps in the start process that will prevent success and are easy to overlook like rotor brake, opening the fuel cutoff levers in a narrow window of time, not allowing the APU to spool enough, needing a crank start, sheering the starter shaft, etc.

Have a look here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=84612 These are user made interactive training missions like these for A-10C.
