Why is that not in any of the sims? If you don't think that the Sentoku is cool, you oughtta be playing with Barbie dolls. They didnt even tell anyone for 60 years. grrr. They were even bigger than some modern nuclear attackers. Arigato...

Oh alright... maybe too hasty.
It's just a little odd the way it's been presented.

This is news? Anyway, very cool concept, and a Seiran is still around...this was real, Neal; they were built. The US destroyed or scuttled each of the subs after inspection Here's the Seiran: http://www.nasm.si.edu/museum/garber/aichi/aichi.htm

I fail to see how sending one or two small seaplanes, with a small bomb payload against well defended targets could have had any effect at all on the wars' outcome.

lol.. ya pielots... This was kept secret to prevent USSR from obtaining this fully-operational-by-the-end of the war technological marvel. Even I thought I knew all the big things. Watch the "spam" movie: they canceled missions to terror-bomb major US cities on both coasts and Panama Canal to cut off Atlantic fleet & resources, because war ended and because of US retaliation. Can't be too hard to program this into a nice graphics remake of PF+IL2. Something like Birds of Steel maybe? USSR tho managed to developed the novel twin-hull concept into their most if not all their major boomer subs. Arigato Sentoku.

Drop one bomb on San Francisco or L.A. Due to the panic that was prevelent back then about a Japanese invasion and there would have been a War of The worlds panic.

And they never saw action because? Separate issue. Previously you had put them in the same category as the unicorns and magic pixies still missing so much that never was Sorry, but that's what I was addressing, not shades of gray

The panic took place immediately after Pearl Harbor- this was four years later. A few small bombs could not possibly have closed the canal. Also, the US had something called radar- the likelyhood of them even reaching the coast was pretty small.

If the anechoic coating was good then I wonder why they didn't pack subs with explosives and Kamikaze from the deep?

They did use mini-subs in the Kamikaze role.

If I remember correctly the IJN plan was to target just the Panama Canal lock gates not the whole canal, disabling or destroying the lock gates would have caused serious problem for the USN for at least 6 months to a year in moving resources around from the Atlantic to the Pacific and visa versa. If it wouldn't have been for the IJN reversal of fortunes at Coral Sea and Midway the attack on the Panama Canal lock gates probably would have got the go ahead. And if I recall correctly right before WW2 broke out one of the US armed forces in a war game (don't recall if it was USN or USAAC) sucessfully destroyed the locks in a simulated suprise attack, so in theory it could be done and seeing how the higher ups in the US military at the time generally played down or down right ignore lessons delt out by mavericks like Billy Mitchell I wouldn't be suprised if the mission did take place that it probably would have succeeded. I also remember a TV interview with one of the IJN pilots who would have flown that mission had it happened and his words were that he and the other pilots had no intention to bomb the lock gates, but instead intended to crash into them kamikazi style.
