Ah you're looking at Chapter 12. Chapters 9 and 10 in the manual don't have a single keystroke listed. Different versions and 3rd party cockpit mods will change switch name. I agree that approximate entries in checklists are less useful. I do know where all the switches are so I find the ones that describe it's location too verbose.
Not testing systems do not make them fail. I think there is a random failure setting. There are also a few steps in the start process that will prevent success and are easy to overlook like rotor brake, opening the fuel cutoff levers in a narrow window of time, not allowing the APU to spool enough, needing a crank start, sheering the starter shaft, etc.
