This looks excellent. The engine still seems really good to me. The webbing on the Russian infantry doesn't seem right to me though, did they have tan webbing?

I'm not impressed with Arma2 armor ballistics or damage models. All tanks pretty much have a hit point system, instead of armor/penetration calculations.

Yeah, vehicle modelling has been my one long-standing beef with the series (beyond ballistics/damage model you've got dancing tanks that pivot steer like ballerinas, among other minor things). Some mods have done some clever tricks to work around the problem, but in the end you've still got hitpoints.

For everything else that comes with the game, I can live with the armor system, especially if it's modded. No other game gives you so much to do in so much space. You can literally make the game anything you want it to be.

They are making progress, though. Tanks/vehicles in Arma2 are a lot better than OFP and Arma1. Maybe in Arma3 they'll be at an even higher level of fidelity?

Interesting.

I agree that better vehicle models would be a big sell for me too. I understand the argument of "it's an infantry combat sim", but it feels awkward when you have very realistic shooting models and combat maneuvers on foot, yet battlefield style aircraft and armor. But, the ground-ponders are happy, so more power to them.

I'd buy this game in heart beat if it let me fly CAS in an IL2 biggrin

It's 1944 he's doing it like he was trained see, run West while shooting East. biggrin His NCO must be a bit lax though, the field manual states you should duct tape your shaving mirror to the top of the stock.

It looks great but I am not seeing anything that mods like Invasion 1944 or the WW2 FDF mod (which had excellent Single Player campaigns and new scripted features) have not done....

Yep, I like the read on this, will make it much simpler for me to use. As I can not get the mod version for 1944 to install.

The mod team previously created the OFP mod Liberation 1941-1945, which featured an armour model based on hit location and armour thickness etc., rather than mere hit points, and tank gunnery to match. There were other features, such as mobility kills, repairs by tank crews where possible, and lots of other good stuff. As the scripting for ArmA2 is similar to OFP, I have high hopes that much of this will make it in again.

I played the original mod a fair number of times, and honestly, it really was quite a bit different from stock OFP. With the improvements offered by ArmA2/OA and hopefully the same development philosophy, this could be a superb game.

Now it's much more improved. Wait for further information - we will show it later
