The great news is, they were perfectly stored and should be in mint condition.

Yeah. Right out of the factory into a box and 6ft under.

So important wondering question, who is going to restore it? Government is well know for bureaucracy that will stall gravity if it could.

According to another article in the Telegraph they were buried 40 feet deep in transport crates.

“They were just buried there in transport crates,” Mr Cundall said. “They were waxed, wrapped in greased paper and their joints tarred. They will be in near perfect condition.”

Yes, don't get clever with me Baldrick. I just thought you might have lopped off a leg or something by mistake.
No, the thing I chopped off had a nose.

40 feet deep ?

they ought to be in nearly perfect condition provided the water table is not shallow there.

At £1 million a piece? We'll need sponsorship.

Not to mention the extra £7Bn (£20Bn after overruns to the modification) to redesign the carriers again.

Then mothball both of the carriers.

Would be a shame to see the Spitfires mothballed twice...67 years apart.

I wouldn't get your hopes up too much, most things that have been buried in a climate like Burmas won't be in that great a shape. Mind you, all you need is the manufacturers 'data plate' (think aircraft VIN number) from the MK.IIs and someone at Duxford will be able to build you a Spitfire MK.II. Just like the MK.I that flew last year.. In fact, you can restore a Spitfire to flying condition that last landed in 1944 in a verticle dive in the dutch countryside. Moneys all you need.

They will be MkXIVs no MkII ever served outside England, let alone arrived in Burma two weeks before wars end.

Have put down boreholes and confirmed some in good condition already apparently. Hope it's true. Start digging in three weeks.

Phas3e you're correct, late night, my bad. It will be good to see them fly again in the future.

I find 40ft hard to believe, that is a long way down, the other article said 4 - 6ft down and not 40ft.
