Depends on the soil type but nearly seventy years under ground would break down the packing cases to some degree but certain mechanical parts would have been heavily greased before transit. If they can find them and make up only three or four Spits out of the usable parts it would be very much worthwhile. yep

Better if they were buried in a frozen place perhaps like the B-29 and the P-38 that were salvaged. I think the B29 was repaired and made flyable but burned before it could be flown to safety though. I imagine such a hot, wet climate would not be favorable for any wood but as you point out. I agree that if out of the 20 enough parts are salvaged to make up 3 or 4 Spits it would be an inestimable triumph.
