OK it's total war, but there are some very interesting ships, and it is a good real time battle on the seas.

With Mods to slow things down nd make them more realistic, like Darth Mod for instance, the battles can be very engaging.

Watch this space for excellent mods.

I've played naval battles in Shogun 2 in the campaign and had an Ironclad but went too slow and by the time it had arrived my other ships had destroyed the enemy fleet biggrin

Have Darthmod installed in Shogun 2 but not tried it yet as I have been engrossed with NTW.

It's pretty much all steam in FotS. Ship speed will be crucial, although I haven't gotten into it much yet - (PC down for a while)
What I like about FotS is that the sea battles matter and you need to win them.
