Hmmm, Blue does have an AWACS but I don't think it is very effective (have to be on the Freq, for instance). Soo, Lucky, your post gives me an idea to broadcast a warning message to Blue forces when your pesky OpFor jet comes a-callin'.

I imagine somebody was pretty surprised when you nailed them...

WC: Now that you mention it all of the units were visible on F10. I thought my AWACs was providing the information through the Fog of War feature but that is only DCS World.

Ahhh thanks, Lucky - yes, I was testing it yesterday and had to turn that on to see everything. I will get that back to Allies Only.

Well, stick my foot in my mouth (again, sort of). I set up a little mission to do more testing on Clients triggering stuff. I have said a few times that Clients cannot affect trigger events just by being someplace - rather, the Client has to kill something to trigger an event.

After I made the half-joke about an OpFor warning message, above, I thought I'd test it to be sure. I set up both a Red and a Blue A-10C as Clients and had them enter a zone that triggers a message and sets a timer flag, and then 20 seconds later the a/c explodes.

This worked! I was surprised. I got back in the slot and flew through the zone again and it did not work the second time or third... Only if I restarted the server would it work, the first time only. But, the trigger event was set to 'ONCE'.

I changed the trigger event to 'Switched Condition' and on the explode trigger I added an action to turn off the timer flag. Now it works every time I fly through the zone without having to restart the server.

This is really news to me. I recall testing this while developing 'Riders ot Storm' for flying through the valley and setting off the mountain festival flares - and obviously I did not go far enough with the options to see it work. Most likely I was using 'Once' type triggers and maybe, too, I was having issues with flare height such that the flares were not visible at the altitude I'd used (I think I was way too high in altitude when I started that testing - 5,000').

Now that I think about why the 'Once' won't work even after I re-join the slot, it is prolly because the a/c Client Group/Unit (they are 1 in the same) retains the Once events regardless of how many times their slots are joined.

This opens a lot more possibilities that I had thought were not possible.

I want a message to warn Blue pilots that a Red a/c is in the area, like an AWACS would give a warning.

Maybe I will add a second Patriot radar, though... since I need to revise it anyway biggrin

That's Eno out front... he was concentrating on the Tu-22s at Williams Field -

Funny story about that. I had been warned you were hunting me so I had my head on a swivel. I ingressed from about 20k and did passes with my remaining 97s. Mental note- 87s would have been a better choice for thin skinned aircraft but my loadouts are frequently the same.

Once I had done the two passes for the 97s I did another pass to finish off my mavs- hitting three targets but still after 3 97s and 3 mavs there were only MAAAAYBE 6 aircraft damaged / destroyed.

I looked at my fuel and was getting pretty thirsty. I figured a couple passes of 30mm and I'd book for home. I'm not sure what happened first- I think on my second pass I got a missile launch warning and went defensive- punched out flares and started looking behind me. I took a pretty hard look behind me- thinking that was crew firing winders at me. I got lucky- engines were fine but the explosion knocked out a bunch of systems- including my gun sights. I flew a couple of s patters to double check between the tails to see if I could see crew back there grinning ear to ear but I saw nothing. I checked my altitude and was only around 5k... So I cautiously surrendered to the notion that it was a manpad shot that hit me and not crew.

I went back for one final run- a bit annoyed that I had so little carnage to show for the ordinance I'd put on deck. I squeezed the trigger and waved the nose around a bit and just as I was pulling out from the run my aircraft started to shake from the impact of bullets. I thought ground fire- but we all know it was crew... Clubbing me like a baby seal.

I had been owned- no doubt about it. This was partly a product of his patience and mostly because I got greedy and started to fly predictably. Just remember when we have those opfor guys out there we have to KEEP our heads on a swivel- but then so do they!!

Actually given the amount of destruction you caused I'd say he wasn't all that successful smile

I recall someone heading at 20000' towards my base, passing right next to me. He never saw me, and here I was sweating a 9 in the face ... so to my amazement, he passes by while I'm in the lead turn. Let's just say he never got anywhere near putting weapons on my airfield... biggrin

Geez that was fun.

Yeah, raven's got a big mouth, but then I had managed to get a Fox 2 into him around General Vaz HQ but a Shilka got the credit.

It took a while to find Eno with all the aircraft around, but I figured he was looking at all the juicy a/c targets - every few minutes I'd see a kill notice so he had to be close.

I popped off one Winder that I doubt Eno even saw - I'd wasted one on raven, too. But then another kill notice popped up for a/c that could only be at Williams Field and I was up at 11,000 circling and spied him - got soo close I almost over shot so I extended my speed brakes and forgot to turn them off. I was really excited - and yes, had this big Cheshire grin (have, not had). Finally btchin' Betty informed me that my speed brakes were on - by that time I'd almost lost him - but then he turned up and slowed and I got the shot. Actually I couldn't get my gun reticle for some odd reason so I was spraying bullets all over the sky.

I'll be up for some action later today.
