Feedback needed guys.
WC and I have been talking a little about how to implement changes to the server while it's up and running. We don't want ANYONE to have to get booted off a game so that we can push updates through to the growing number of missions available.
Originally, I think we agreed that we wouldn't password protect the "unscheduled" flights but would lock up fly ins. Now I'm wondering if the server does start to pack up throughout the day we may be limited in when we can apply updates.
If someone is flying around in there, in a sim like this where it can take a guy 20 minutes to get his aircraft set up the way he likes it, I don't have the heart to kick people out or shut it down. And I don't always have time to wait around 20-50 minutes for a mission to end... so I need to be courteous to the player and to WC and myself.
A couple of options I thought about:
1) Password protect it and post the current password in this thread. This could be updated in the first post. This would allow us to post "update shutdowns" where guys who go in to play will know (or have an opportunity to know) when we will be shutting it down to update it.
2) Post update shutdowns in the thread (first page) and leave it unlocked... who cares about non-SimHQ guys who don't come read the forums? (kidding, but that's how it would seem)
Also- WC is fanatical about getting updates implemented to his missions so the user has the best experience possible. He's been great at integrating people's suggestions so far. Of course, it will get harder to get access to an empty server as it gains popularity... so do we restrict the updates to once a week?
Thanks for the input guys. Hope you're able to enjoy the server!
