Hi

After many many years, the Su-27 Flanker 1.5 Squadron Commander's Edition fly's again.

I managed to get it work so so in Ubuntu 11.10 with sounds smile

The joystick is causing a problems, but I can fly it in 1998 style HOKAS. Yes, the Hands On the Keyboard And Stick biggrin

I so much would like to see a remake of this sim. Just to make it working within windows, supporting the multiple joysticks, sounds & etc.

Hi!

A small update from Ubuntu/Linux noob.

BAD STUFF
Joystick
For some odd reason, the Ubuntu 11.10 is not detecting my CH FightStick(usb) every time. I need to disconnect the stick 1-2 times, untill the Ubuntu detects it.

The throttle axis is not anyhow working properly, and I using a keyboard pageup, pagedown and numpad -/+ keys for the throttle.

The viewhat is not working since, the Ubunto sees it as a axis. Go figure...

So far I could not install the jkeys or qjoypad applications, which can translate the joystick button (or axis)inputs to the key strokes. Working with it...

I need to change the keyboard layout to US to have a access to all key input from my Scandinavian keyboard. Not big deal.

GOOD STUFF
The wine runs Flanker pretty nice and stable.

The .mis(mission) and .trk(playback) files are detected and open correctly.

The FSHELL (scripted campaign engine) seems to working. Not fully tested yet.

The Random Mission Generator aka RMG is working in dosbox and generating the mission files nicely. Not fully tested yet.

TO DO
Well, study the Ubuntu/Linux to be able to use a jkeys or qjoypad.
Find a Flanker Realistic Payload Editor from my file archive and test it in Ubuntu.

smile

This starts to be a monolog here.

I found this webpage with google:
http://fukumori.org/Fshell/index.html

Thanks to the Mr. Fukumori's site, I found a Pilots-Log-Manager application by Michael "Loophole" Barnes and Flanker-Realistic-Payload-Editor application by David "Zip" Pierron (+ many others).

A first guns-only and BVR sorties done. Pretty much fun.

So far so good smile

I'm not really familiar with the game, but it's cool to hear of success with Linux. thumbsup

Yes, there is a download version of the SU-27 Flanker 1.5 SCE .ISO file in the net, but I don't link it to here.

It's unclear if this classic hardcore sim from -97 (arcade game in these days standards) is a freeware or not.

It would be very nice if the Eagle Dynamics, SSI or whoever holds the copy rights these days, would clarify the status.

I thought I could buy it at GOG.com but it isn't there. What a shame.

Update

The qjoypad problem solved.

I found answer/download link from this page :
http://archive.getdeb.net/getdeb/ubu...mes/q/qjoypad/

What the qjoypad does?
http://qjoypad.sourceforge.net/

The qjoypad allow me to assign a key commands to the controller/s axis & buttons.
So, now I can assign all navigation, weapon system & plane mechanics primary controls to the HOTAS, which is a huge improvement over previous keyboard usage.

My Saitek X35T stand-alone mod. throttle (from 2001) and Logitech MoMo rudder/pedals are acting as a button inputs and the CH FighterStick viewhat works as a four view hat.

Not a big deal, if that second option is a pure keyboard input...

Nice smile

Blimey! Good to hear form the good old Flanker 1.5 smile

I would love to see a windows 7 friendly re-release. Last time I tried it in DOSBox the joystick was really unstable. Almost impossible to calibrate. Perhaps ED could treat us one day? I still have my 1.5 box proudly displayed on the shelf! This game was truly amazing when it first came out.

By the way. If I remember well thee were 2 mods out there to fly the Su-25 and the MiG-27. They used the Su-27 cockpit, but hey... it was fun. They might still be out there.

I also fly flanker 1.5 from time to time, great sim! By the way I fly on Win7 and is very stable, if you have problems with your joystick you may try PPjoy.

Here is the link to the planes add on, you can fly the MiG-23, MiG-29 and Su-25
http://www.mediafire.com/?j257f879y0g560x

English install instructions are on the Su-25 zip.

Enjoy!
