The Texas Bluebonnet is the State flower. They are protected, so if they grow in an area along the side of the road, it is illegal to disturb that area while they are blooming. Our highways are lined with these, and it is stunning when they are in full bloom.
I didn't take this picture, but it was taken an hour south of Dallas the first of this month.

We have a similar thing up in Northern Ontario with Lupins.
