Search for 1.28 and start there and Look at the bottom of any posts by MrJelly for links to downloads

Hello,

Copy EAW to your computer from your disc, don't install it. Then patch it to eaw 1.28e. Next install (actually unpack) Jelly's direct set picker. Then install (unpack) his converted campaigns. Apply the new planes folder, and fix 12.

Many thanks for the replies.

Am I correct in thinking that if you want to apply mods it will go on top of 1.28? Does 1.28 offer Hi-Res planes and terrain and included additional planes and theatres out of the box so to speak? If not can someone point me to where I will find these?

I am mainly interested in offline..

Thanks,
Gian

Hi Gians.

If you can run EAW in D3D mode, then you can have 515x512 24bit colour skins. If you can only run Glide you'll still have MS models, but you'll be limited to 8bit colour 256x256. The difference in colours is not that great, but you'll certainly notice the difference between 512 nd 256 textures. We need to do an update to the Glide code to allow 512 textures to be used, but that's sometime in the future, at the moment. Apart from those differences, 1.28e will give you a great gameplay experience. The basic 1.28e setup gives you loads to play with, and then there are loads of alternative aircraft you can load. wink

Hello Gians,

EAW 1.28e "out of the box" gives you the European Theatre west, and also the east (Russia). If you download Jelly's Direct Set Picker and then download and unpack his converted add ons, you can have the Pacific Theatre and Desert Theatre as well as a few others all at this click of a mouse. Like Spanish Air War for instance (1937-39).

The main thing with Win 7 is the User Account Control setting which must be set to off.
Otherwise when eaw.exe tries to save the settings to the "eaw.ini" file the User Account Control will not allow it and you get a CTD.

Thank you all for you kind help and pointers. I got the game to work,,,sort of in Win 7 and now tried it in WinXP which I find better, int terms of the mouse responsiveness in the GUI..

I do have a problem in both OS's though, I don't have any control of the plane. Keyboard, mouse and joystick won't work.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
G

You should be able to change the settings in the eaw.ini file from the configuration page in game.

You would not be able to run the old 1.2 version at all on your Win7 PC. It would certainly CTD with the 7217 error because more modern graphic card/driver combinations no longer support 8 bit. The mouse stuttering is due to the 7217 workaround in the 1.28 series, and it does not happen if you use the d3d windower.
