It looks a bit similar to Janes Fleet command which I liked a lot. Its about time that some new modern Naval Strategy games hit the shelves :-).

cheers,
Dag

Just got it.

Played a few training missions. Lost an awacs, an F35 and a Drone during one mission.

Did sink a ship and shot down 3 enemy fighters though.

Need to practice more! biggrin

I'm working on a review for Doug and want to test out the multiplayer component. Anyone want to schedule a time to get together and give it a try?

Well, I've not heard anything bad about it yet. After getting burnt by Paradox Gettysburg: Armoured Warfare I was waiting the demo (which was supposed to be on Steam yesterday) but I may go ahead and buy now.

While I didn't find the demo on Steam last night, the full game was on there and an additional free game with the purchase, until the 17th, so I figured for $20.00, what the heck.

A few things I noticed:

-I dislike not having an option to use NTDS style symbols versus a non-standard outline of whatever vehicle is represented.

-It is very similar to Janes and seems to have some great potential to port over to say, an IPad or tablet. The overall download was just under 1gb, so relatively small in comparative game terms.

-No mission editor, which isn't a big flaw for me yet, depending on number of missions contained within. I have only made it into the 2nd mission. I dislike that you are only able to play until objectives are met. I would like to have an option to play beyond the objectives, to refine strategies and such.

-Jamming is a bit quirky and doesn't work the same as using the weapons selection. (Admittedly, haven't read the manual, if there is one so maybe it is defined in the manual)

-Graphics aren't bad at all, very reminiscent of Janes, though I think they are a bit crisper.

Anyway, just my .02 that I've witnessed thus far and am looking forward to diving a bit more into it tonight. I noticed too, that when I changed the video settings, you will need to restart the game, otherwise it will not work, at least on my machine. I am looking forward to an official SimHQ review. I do think there is much potential, considering there's been a drought for way too long in regards to modern naval warfare.

Matt

I will have some time this weekend. Admittedly, I have an hour or two each evening, just not sure what you're schedule is like or time zone you're in. I'm pacific, so anytime up until 11 is fine for me

I initially thought that, too...so I'm guessing you either haven't set the graphics in-game to the 'ultra' quality, or haven't played Jane's Fleet Command for about as long as me! duck

In discussing this, I happened to pull up the Steam page for JFC, and let me tell you...

...oof those graphics were BAD. I mean, just...REALLY BAD...

This game is a very huge improvement in graphics over JFC. And I think the biggest win is that it actually works properly on widescreen monitors! rofl - playing Jane's on a modern LCD panel is just...painful. Not just the awful graphics, but how much space you lose on the sides.
