Hi
I'm planning to re-install FB/1946 after a long time away. It's been a while since I stopped playing and I'm a little left behind modding-wise. I understand they now come in all-inclusive "packs", so which one would you recommend for offline play ?
Are there any sites out there where one can still hand-pick and manually merge mods with the game ?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Nico

All in one packs. . . For online play you'll want the UltraPack. Found here: http://ultrapack.il2war.com/index.phpFor Offline play you'll want Dark Blue World, which can be found here: http://www.sas1946.com/main/SAS (also host to Dark Blue World) is also the site that I would recommend if you want to hand pick mods and create a personal merged pack. As of right now, most Mods are only compatible with patches up to 4.101, although 4.11 has been released, the modding community hasn't had it long enough to make their mods compatible with it yet.

In fact, 4.11 is quite moddable, and I have most of the UP3 and DBW mods mounted in my 4.11 install. Most 4.09 modded planes work in 4.11. The only thing that needs some serious work is the sounds, but it is only a matter of time. If you haven't much experience at installing mods DBW for 4.101 is a wonderful start, however. You will be flabbergasted at the quality!

Good advice from Lupus. It depends on if you are an off-liner or on-liner.
If you are a dedicated off-liner DBW is the best. If upu are an on-liner you should go for either HSFX or Ultrapack.
All these are good all-inclusive packs.

If you haven't much experience at installing mods DBW for 4.101 is a wonderful start, however. You will be flabbergasted at the quality! Used to have a modded-out install back when mods didn't come in packs, Even had my own custom map mods with custom-made textures and some old mods you probably couldn't find anywhere now. Then HSFX came out, and I lost everything when their installer simply wiped out my game folder. "But we did warn that it would delete existing files" they said. No, they did not. And I hadn't backed anything up in over a week... Anyway, that came about around the same time the original AAA (where I was a mod for a while) closed down and SAS became the latest hot place. All the mods I knew were at AAA were lost, and I just couldn't be bothered to start again from scratch, plus with CloD on the horizon (we all know how that turned out though...) I uninstalled everything and stopped playing. It's been a while but I still think I know my way around a MOD folder. I'll just go with DBW for the sake of convenience and work from there. Nothing could ever be as good as that old original install I had though... Thank you all for the advice and pointing me in the right direction. It's only been a few years (gosh, months ?) but it feels like a completely different community... Cheers Nico

I'm also back after a very long time, sorry to steal the thread. Does the 4.07m to 1.71 superpack include a campaign generator for offline campaigns or would it be better to install DCG or else on top?
Thx L

Hello, So, 10gb worth of downloads later I've finally reinstalled il2 and patched to dwb 1.71. Has anybody any experience with dwb 1.71? I was wondering what flavour to pick when launching the il2-selector and what #patch to install? I looked in the other forums for answers but there is a lot that is taken for granted, I assume this is because these packages have been around for a very long time Any help much appreciated! thanks L

I have recently jummped aboard the DBW bandwagon after just having found out about it.
It is an amazing piece of work from what I managed to experience so far. I haven't played any campaigns or missions, but I did dabble in the QMB which is amazingly fleshed out compared to the stock game. I you enable Pro Missions by PAL or something like that using JGSME then you will have the pimped out QMB activated in the game.
I am looking to flesh out some career modes now starting with some of Boelcke's work as as far as I can see there are not really new career modes added from what I have seen so far.
Cheers, G

Thanks, I'm quite intrigued by it, it's just a little overwhelming, I'm especially confused about the il2-selector and the patches in jgsme which are similarly named.
By default the il2-selector I think shows 'stock' but 'up' and 'dbw' show up as options. Which flavor would you recommend to begin with? I suppose I should select dbw?
in regard to jgsme I wanted to enable the widescreen and trackir patches but any other patch worth adding would be most welcome. I found a little confusing that there are patches with similar names, I suppose I simply lack the knowhow having been absent from il2 for a very long time.
Lastly would it be advisable to use a custom campaign generator with dbw?
Cheers L

I've tried about a dozen times with 4 different installs and cannot get DBW to work. I get nothing. It just never kicks in. I've had great success with all the UP and have UP3 running just fine but cannot get DBW to work. Tried all the forums I know of and nothing has worked so far.
Installed according to directions. Tried on two different computers and nothing when I choose DBW.
Love to have it.

A typical DBW setups would work like this:
A 4.101 install with UP3 added And then DBW Build added
The DBW expansions will not affect the base UP3 install at all, for online UP3 players. UP3 official updates will be incorporated into DBW as they become available, as required, requiring no big user efforts. They will not adversely affect DBW installs at all.
To play DBW, a player would disable UP3 in jsgme, and then select "Dark Blue World" with his il2fb.exe selector, and launch.
Have you accomplished this step?

Do you have a working install patched up to 4.10.1? (Make sure it's not installed to Program Files if you are using Win7 or Vista) If so, make a copy of it. (Copy and paste it.) Now rename it to DWB install or whatever you want. If you are using the downloaded version, install this FIRST http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,1531.0.html before you add anything else. Verify it works. Install UP3 and all updates. Use JSGME and activate UP3. Make sure it works. Deactivate UP3. Install DBW. Run JSGME and activate widescreen and TIR if you have a widescreen and use TIR. Start the selector and make sure that you have DBW selected. Make sure you have the box checked for TIR support. Set your memory usage slider to 1024 (ish) to start out with. Now save settings and try to start it. Don't get frustrated, it's always something simple that's been overlooked. Trust me! I've done it many times! Other things you might check include making sure the install folder is not set to read only. It sometimes makes it #%&*$#. You might need to run the launcher as an administrator. If you get it to run go here http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,19921.0.html for your one stop easy install for most basic mods. If you use this, you can delete most of the DBW mods in the jsgmemods folder in your install. Hope it works!

Oh crap! Went back just Shoots and grins and tried to get DBW to run again. It came up in Russian went back from 4.101 to 4.09 with block type. The graphics are actually beautiful and are working. One step forward and two steps backward.
Where is it finding 4.09? Oh and the Missions, campaigns, skins, tracks are all stock. All my new files are missing. I've searched my HD and I can't find 4.09 anywhere.
This is weird.

I've started anew and have updated to 4.101...I think. I ran the updater but when I start the game it gives me no indication that it's version 4.101. The splash screen says 4.10 still. I can't remember if this is how it's supposed to be or not. Anyway to tell what version you have besides the splash screen and if it did not update why not?
Thanks again for all your help.

That's correct. It will not tell you 4.10.1. Now run it and make sure it all works.

Hi,
I am thiking to fire up my IL2 1946 again. Never had use it modded.
What I did understand so far:
- Better not mess mods like UP3, DBW and HSFX with IL2 v4.11, yet.
- A working IL2 v4.101m to install UP3 RC4 flow by DBW 1.71. Question - Those to mods can share the same IL2 instalation? And can we commute betwenn both if needed?
- The HSFX5 mod is also compatible with v4.101m. Looks like HSFX6 for v4.11 is just around the corner. Question - The HSFX5 mod can share the same IL2 instalation with mods UP3 and DBW? Or need a clean one.
Didn't knows what's the difference betwenn UP3 / DBW and HSFX mods, Graphics, planes, FM, special effects, maps, dinamic campaigns ? Is it possible to summarize the differences?
Regards

Pedro, hows it going? Check the link vpmedia posted above: http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,21514.msg239532.html#msg239532It is a HUGE package (19 parts) but well worth the time to download. As stated there, this will take 1946 from the box disc to the latest and best version available today. The package provides the ability, through a selector, to load your choice of mod packs, including DBW, DBW 1916 which is the WWI option as well as UP3, Stock game, SAS modact 3. If you have never used mods, be prepared for a whole new IL2 experience. DBW is built strictly for offline play and adds an immense amount of content. I have not gone online in a couple of years so not up on what is needed there. Good luck with your return.

That's correct. It will not tell you 4.10.1. Now run it and make sure it all works. Interesting I posted this same thing a few days ago and it disappeared... Not wanting to take a chance I downloaded once again the patch to 4.10.1 and the splash screen does indeed now say it's 4.10.1. Then I downloaded UP3.0RC4 again twice and it works just fine. Downloaded DBW super install, again twice and neither of them work. I'm back to the Russian version of 4.09. I know I did everything right this time. Is there any way of telling what is going wrong?
