Hi

I'm planning to re-install FB/1946 after a long time away. It's been a while since I stopped playing and I'm a little left behind modding-wise. I understand they now come in all-inclusive "packs", so which one would you recommend for offline play ?

Are there any sites out there where one can still hand-pick and manually merge mods with the game ?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Nico

All in one packs. . .

For online play you'll want the UltraPack. Found here: http://ultrapack.il2war.com/index.php

For Offline play you'll want Dark Blue World, which can be found here: http://www.sas1946.com/main/

SAS (also host to Dark Blue World) is also the site that I would recommend if you want to hand pick mods and create a personal merged pack.

As of right now, most Mods are only compatible with patches up to 4.101, although 4.11 has been released, the modding community hasn't had it long enough to make their mods compatible with it yet.

In fact, 4.11 is quite moddable, and I have most of the UP3 and DBW mods mounted in my 4.11 install. Most 4.09 modded planes work in 4.11. The only thing that needs some serious work is the sounds, but it is only a matter of time. If you haven't much experience at installing mods DBW for 4.101 is a wonderful start, however. You will be flabbergasted at the quality!

Good advice from Lupus. It depends on if you are an off-liner or on-liner.

If you are a dedicated off-liner DBW is the best.
If upu are an on-liner you should go for either HSFX or Ultrapack.

All these are good all-inclusive packs.

Used to have a modded-out install back when mods didn't come in packs, Even had my own custom map mods with custom-made textures and some old mods you probably couldn't find anywhere now. Then HSFX came out, and I lost everything when their installer simply wiped out my game folder. "But we did warn that it would delete existing files" they said. No, they did not. And I hadn't backed anything up in over a week...
Anyway, that came about around the same time the original AAA (where I was a mod for a while) closed down and SAS became the latest hot place. All the mods I knew were at AAA were lost, and I just couldn't be bothered to start again from scratch, plus with CloD on the horizon (we all know how that turned out though...) I uninstalled everything and stopped playing. It's been a while but I still think I know my way around a MOD folder. I'll just go with DBW for the sake of convenience and work from there. Nothing could ever be as good as that old original install I had though...

Thank you all for the advice and pointing me in the right direction. It's only been a few years (gosh, months ?) but it feels like a completely different community...

Cheers

Nico

I'm also back after a very long time, sorry to steal the thread. Does the 4.07m to 1.71 superpack include a campaign generator for offline campaigns or would it be better to install DCG or else on top?

Thx
L

Hello,

So, 10gb worth of downloads later I've finally reinstalled il2 and patched to dwb 1.71.
Has anybody any experience with dwb 1.71?
I was wondering what flavour to pick when launching the il2-selector and what #patch to install?

I looked in the other forums for answers but there is a lot that is taken for granted, I assume this is because these packages have been around for a very long time smile

Any help much appreciated!
thanks
L

I have recently jummped aboard the DBW bandwagon after just having found out about it.

It is an amazing piece of work from what I managed to experience so far. I haven't played any campaigns or missions, but I did dabble in the QMB which is amazingly fleshed out compared to the stock game. I you enable Pro Missions by PAL or something like that using JGSME then you will have the pimped out QMB activated in the game.

I am looking to flesh out some career modes now starting with some of Boelcke's work as as far as I can see there are not really new career modes added from what I have seen so far.

Cheers,
G

Thanks, I'm quite intrigued by it, it's just a little overwhelming, I'm especially confused about the il2-selector and the patches in jgsme which are similarly named.

By default the il2-selector I think shows 'stock' but 'up' and 'dbw' show up as options. Which flavor would you recommend to begin with? I suppose I should select dbw?

in regard to jgsme I wanted to enable the widescreen and trackir patches but any other patch worth adding would be most welcome. I found a little confusing that there are patches with similar names, I suppose I simply lack the knowhow having been absent from il2 for a very long time.

Lastly would it be advisable to use a custom campaign generator with dbw?

Cheers
L
