If Flight succeeds big time, MS will never make another serious civilian flight sim.
Maybe true. If so, then MS doesn't belong in the genre - you have to be committed to producing a a serious sim in order to produce a serious sim. As a fan of serious sims, I'd rather have sparse pickings to hoard than bucketfuls of trash to pick through.
This is what I fear too, but I recognize it's a pretty irrational fear. As long as there are enthusiasts, there will be products, they'll just start getting ridiculously expensive - the whole supply-and-demand curve they taught us back in high school economics. And I know I'll pay for it, too.
I can't stand what keeps happening to more serious sims.
<sigh>Me neither. To be fair, I certainly support folks' right to enjoy what we call "less serious" sims - these games are still enjoyable and entertaining, which is what a game is supposed to be, after all. And I definitely applaud developers for maximizing their return-to-effort ratios (yay capitalism). I just wish I didn't feel like the only guy in town who wants a game with a 700-page manual and a 20 minute start-up procedure.
Again, my concern isn't that "real" sims are going away: I'm worried that
cheap "real" sims are going away. I enjoy only having to pay only $60 for a "real" sim.
