So I was looking at the steam forum and it seems that flight is ganing steam this will have two effects to us I think one good and one bad. First the good: More people are geting in to tur hobby so devs will continue to nake addon's and sims and other things like that.
The Bad: Our forum this place may be overun by gamers with there smack talk and there I am right you are all wrong atitude. just my view

I sincerely hope that the game part of Flight takes off. And we'd welcome gamers that were interested in Flight or flight-like sims (Hawx, Apache Air Assault..etc..) I don't think we have to worry about being overrun. They can play by the forum rules or be gone.. I for one would love to see some enthusiasm about Flight that was the result of the game part taking off..(pun intended..) BeachAV8R PS - I think the uptick in interest is due to it being advertised pretty heavily on Steam as a free game. The gaming world probably has no better portal to games than Steam...so its getting face time on the front page of Steam will probably have a spike in short term interest. This will truly be the litmus test for the longevity of Flight...

I have downloaded nearly every free game that Steam has and for the most part they are only free up to a point, eventually they are hoping for you to Improve your game through micro payments, which none of them IMO are worth paying for, they are interesting for a little while but soon become repetitive and boring with only a couple exceptions (I'm really not much into MMO's and grinding). I see Flight as falling into this category as well, unless there is something that will hook the average gamer who downloads it because it's free. The chances of them shelling out money for DLC that is needed to complete the initial missions is small considering that it is rather boring to begin with, you can't shoot at or destroy anything there is nothing to accomplish that rewards you except for a couple of new skins(yawn). It needs a much more activity based Multiplayer, competition (racing), points, unlocks (performance upgrades), Multiplayer needs to be persistent when the host leaves everyone is disconnected, it needs to make one of the remaining players the host. The only way to join currently is weird, you have to keep hitting quick join till you eventually find some players and even then there are no activities to do together. So if MS is counting downloads it might seem really popular but how many are online and actually playing?

Call me a pessimist, but I see the game part of Flight as a threat to "real" simulations. Why would a developer put the time and effort into developing a game engine with an accurate flight model that is robust and efficient enough to run on household PCs when they can cut corners and develop a "looks great, feels good" arcade game and get a bigger payout? Following the rolling snowball, "game" flight sims will result in far fewer and more expensive "real" simulations.
Years down the road we'll all look back and realize how spoiled we were to get a high-fidelity flight sim for only $60 USD that didn't also require pay-for DLC to add paint schemes or connect flight controllers.

I find this post incredibly ironic because of all the forums I've visited and gamers I've known, some flight simmers are the most stubborn, close minded set of individuals I've met, specially when flight model discussions turn into pissing matches between two people over who has the most experience in their cessna or with their RC airplanes.
Also, you want "I'm right you're wrong"? Take a look at the way most core flight simmers look at games like blazing angels or wings of prey, I've never seen anyone say "eh they're not for me but I could see why they might be fun" no it's always "Blaaaah stupid arcadey kiddy crap for kids, I'll stick to il2 let the children play their video games!"
There's a lot of nice people that play flight sims and there's a lot of nice people that play regular games, generalizing either group is no way of introducing each other to new types of games, be it flight sims or shooters/rpg's/indiegames/adventuregames etc. etc. etc.

Einstein, you're a genius. You nailed it. I want Flight to fail. And it will. It has. How many peeps are downloading Flight is not an indication of success because it's free. The dlc dollarswill tell the real story. Stuff you have to buy.

If people are enjoying it, thats great! I dont undestand why people feel that another sim is a threat to their own sim of choice. Just seems silly to me. Everyone should just use what they like. If Flight appeals to someone they should be able to use it and enjoy it with out feeling ridiculed for it. Rob

If Flight succeeds big time, MS will never make another serious civilian flight sim. Maybe no one will. Look has happened to the greatest first person tactical shooter series of all-time, Rainbow Six/Rogue Spear/Ghost Recon classic? Dumbed down and arcadyized (yes, I made up the word). I can't stand what keeps happening to more serious sims.
