I am no electrician which is why I throw this idea out to those who know better.

I have BU0836X with 32 inputs. BU0836x USB Controller

What would happen if I hook up the usb cable out of my HOTAs straight to the BU0836x? Would this daisy chaining get
me all HOTAs buttons and the remaining inputs on the BU0836x? Or would I simply overload the 5V power supply and
confuse the heck out input/output controllers?

Suggestions? Warnings? Ridicule?

Wow that looks interesting. Don't know about your question but thanks for posting that. If I ever add switches to my cockpit that may be the way to go.

Hi FC,

In one word DON'T .....

USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. There is already the equivilant of Leo's board inside the unit.
The USB interface only has four wires in the connector:

+5 volts from the PC
Ground from the PC
The other two wires are signals to and from the PC.

As each USB device has a seperate identifier built in, you could plug both in to a USB hub and that would give you all your HOTAS buttons + all the inputs on the BU0836x board as well.

If your HOTAS setup is USB there is no need for a further interface. If however, it's a gameport type, then interfacing to the BU0836x would be a benefit.

What I left out of my explanation is that I have reached the USB input limit in my sim. I "fly" IL-2 which recognizes
4 usb inputs. I have a flight panel, which uses two BU0386Xs, usb pedals and Track IR -- and I am out of inputs. (Matrixing
is too much for me which is why I bought the X version for electronically daft.)

Fortunately my HOTAS is an old Saitek X35T/X36F gameport USB combo. This transitional piece of hardware might be wired to
Leo's controller as a gameport, or do you think it still has a USB ID number as the HOTAS is a strange hybrid? I guess the
only way to know is try. Do you think there is any physical risk to the controllers involved?

Do you know a good gameport to BU0386 tutorial off the top of your head? Bodnar closed down his forums. Otherwise, the all
knowing Goggle shall reveal all.

Hi again FC,

You can get a "PCI Gameport adapter" board to fit inside your PC if your soundcard/motherboard doesn't have a 15 way gameport socket.

Then you could install the drivers and plug your HOTAS in there. Hopefully IL would see it as a different interface as it's analugue and not digital.

Just wanted to chime in about your perception that IL-2 only recognizes 4 USB inputs.

I 'fly' IL-2 1946 as well.

I have the following USB devices hooked into my machine and functioning quite well for IL-2:

1. TrackIR 4
2. CH Pro-Throttle
3. CH Pro-Peddles
4. CH Fighterstick
5. CH MFP
6. USB Mouse
7. USB Keyboard

I have the CH products programed through their controller software, but I do not have them set up as a 'single' controller.

I have at one time also had a CH Throttle Quadrant operating at the same time (although I don't now because it didn't have the range of motion that I needed for what I wanted to use it for).

However, given my setup I would suggest that IL-2 will recognize a lot more than 4 USB inputs.

IL-2 1946 is limited to use four USB "game devices" (joystick and similar). Period.

What counts are congtrollers (stick, throttle, pedal...) show under "Game devices" in Windows Control Panel.

With PPJoy (PITA to use) is possible to combine two BU0836 as one "virtual device".
Witth Xpadder too - but this dont recognize analog imputs (axis), only buttons.

I dont see how plug a gameport (X45) device into BU0836 without remove their internal "guts" and rewire (in short, make a "new stick")...

With a keyboard mapper (SVMapper or similar) inputs (buttons) from a 5th device is not usabe in IL-2 (sice are not possible to map under IL-2 GUI)?

A short cut: wire your USB Pedal axis to one BU0836...

Hi, all. I am grateful for all the sage advice everyone has given. Lots of good
information and ideas. I hadn't known about USB game devices vs inputs and PPJoy.
Problem solved! I'll be sure to post pix when my flight panel is finished. Couldn't
have done it with the support of the community.

Something I found while trying to figure this all out:

The DIY joystick and cockpit forum is in Brazilian Portuguese but if you have some high
school Spanish, listen to Fado or have some Latin, you maybe able to follow. Plenty of
self explanatory photos. Sokol, DIY ambassador-at-large, has a hand in it, I believe.

I have the same usb controller, it is probably the best in marked. No conflicts with any other devices. About your question. I do not get it. You have just one usb plug into that, witch goes to your PC, There are inputs for 1 joystick device and 8 hotas controls.
I got this
connected to mine. and are making a stick from scratch witch I am going to plug into it later
