...Anyone else noticed those 944 pounds of live cats on the mission selector? That would be a lot for the cargo compartment, or indeed, the cabin of any light aircraft. Something just doesn't seem to compute for me. Not even with all those eye-candies. Nice review! EDIT: Also, this is such an epic screenshot I feel I have to ask if it's real Actually it is a photo... Is it a photo though? The fore-ground seems like texture maps rather than real-life, but the clouds coming over the mountains looks like a weather effect that I'd be pleasantly surprised Flight be able to do. Plus the review puts a photo within a bunch of in-game screenshots? Shurley Shome Mishatake? Chris, it's an in-game shot, right?

Nice shot, and it's been years since I've been up in that crater due to the kids refusing to get out of bed when it's dark on vacation lol I think I found the review easter egg then..

Chris, it's an in-game shot, right? It is a real photo that I took. Check the right side of this page near the bottom: Photo! Man and here I was all ready to criticize the texture loading "blurries" from FSX still not fixed in Flight Actually that seems to be one of the things they fixed, no blurries for me.

Many have forgotten that FSX + Acceleration shipped with 88 challenging and diverse missions. They are far more advanced than anything I’ve yet seen with Flight, and far more entertaining. In addition, FSX has a full instructional syllabus with a course of Basic, Instrument, and Commercial flight missions with voiceovers and a virtual instructor. It will be interesting to see if Flight hooks anyone. If so, one would think we’d see an attendant uptick in FSX sales and participation as those new users seek a more complete game / simulation. Great review Beach! And I think you basically stated here its only real purpose to our hobby. I'm talking last sentence particularly, perhaps FSX sales will now go up due to this.

Beach,
I appreciated your fair review, it was right on target. I never understood why the developers of "Flight" thought that this game would be the game to offer the most help to those who wanted to learn to fly in the virtual skies. I believe every flight simulator that Microsoft developed in the past, offered help to those who wanted to be virtual pilots. Plus there were many in the flight community ready to offer their help as well. That is why I was attracted to Microsoft flight simulators in the past. They offered a full package to help one to fly and everything in between right out of the box. The only major problem with their software simulators in the past was that very few could max out the sliders on their low end computers. FSX in the beginning failed, not because it wasn't a good product for we are still seeing its potential even today, it failed because almost no one could get their frame rates out of the single digits, until the acceleration upgrade was offered. And even now it takes an above average to a high-end gaming computer to see FSX in all its glory. "Flight" targets those with average computers, with excellent graphics and frame rates, and that is a major plus for those who want to try it. But it fails in almost every other area, compared to Microsoft’s past history.

My favorite quote from the review: That was the same guy that had you starting over Friday Harbor, airborne, in an ultralight stuttering along at 5 frames per second when FSX was released. I have just the initial download, plus the Stearman. It's OK, will probably purchase the other islands, just to get the RV, but will have to see if any more "simulator" content is included with Alaska before I buy that. Just a "new area" won't get it for me.

I notice that one of the achievements is shipping cargo without being detected.
So, Flight is the new coke runner simulator?

MS Flight wasn't worth all the hype MS said it would be IMO. If I want a job to fly cargo, I jump in FSX using AirHAuler from JustFlight.com. I've been using both those products since they've come out, and haven't looked back.
After going for a joyride in Flight, I'm always closing it down after 30mins or so to play FSX instead if that says anything.

I'm still looking for the mission to fly rubber dog poop out of Hong Kong. Maybe, just maybe, it's something that will bring new flight simmers in? New flight sims, controllers... Maybe? The more the merrier!

I was bored to death of it within an hour.Other then the great framerates on the highest settings its complete mindless garbage when compared to FS9 or FSX.It lacks everything that would keep any serious flight sim fan around. What the Flight developement team doesn't realize is gamers (which this is suppose to appeal to) quickly move onto a new game.Flight simmers stick around and contribute to the longevity of a product for many years.Back to FSX for me.

I like the look for sure. Night with weather feels lonely the way it should. Landing on water at night is satisfying for me. But I'd rather do it in a Junkers 52 or Arado Sea plane. I am not a fan of ala carte games. And the closing to community design and creation is an absolute no no microsoft. I'll fly the free but I probably won't buy unless you create a total Germany package. You give me this quality complete world in one package with community development, I'm all in. But...
