So i just tuned down the resolution from 1900x1080 to 1280x720 game runs a little better now but i still have some kind of microstuttering!
Right now there is just some kind of "open world" scenario with a few islands (7 iirc 3 for the player 3 for the ai with one neutral island).
Main goal is to capture islands and destroy the enemy carrier!
As far as i know the beta will be patched on a regular basis and runing until the release of the full game.

Just bought and installing now. I have never played the original as I didn't have an Amiga (C64 FTW) so I hope it isn't as simplistic as it appears...

Just been watching some gameplay vids.It looks promising.
I may be beginning to regret selling my desktop PC and going for a gaming laptop frown
I just hope it runs it ok.

Just had a play with it, and then I played the game biggrin

It's certainly a nice looking game and plays very well. Not sure what to do though with not having played CC before. Go for it Chucky!

I don't think this new version will ever grab me like the original did.
You have to remember that when the original was released it was quite ground breaking.

I remember sitting at my Atari ST in awe at the fact that I could launch the Manta, fly it around the ship, exit it and then jump to the ship and view it from there. For me it was truly wonderful.I wish I could go back to those days frown

I can't try it for a while Mace,I had to send my laptop back to MSI for 'repairs' and the part is out of stock.

I'm a long time SimHQ reader but rarely post (lost my old account) so my opinion may not count for much... but I've got to say I'm really enjoying this beta.

I have a very vivid memory of seeing the original CC in a gaming shop in town and sprinting the mile and a bit home to excitedly tell my mum how I'd found the most awesome looking game... you can fly planes, drive tanks, steer ships and everything! (pretty much my exact words all those years ago). With money in hand I then sprinted to town again, and back home. Man was it worth it!!!

The beta has pretty much evoked the same feelings (just without the need for so much running... thank you ADSL!) - I love the idea of launching fighters, it's an odd thing that you don't see much in games / sims these days but gives me a real "launch the alert 5!" kind of buzz. The voices are great, the engine is gorgeous, the controls work really nicely (although flying mantas is odd - feels a bit more like space sim controls - no yaw, just roll and slip). The concept of the game still feels fresh to me, but I'm sure I used to be a bit better at it!! I'm yet to take over an enemy island frown

Aside from missing a campaign (greyed out menu option) you get what feels like the original main game from CC. I've only found one bug so far (post processing == mouse lag), generally it feels like one of the more polished betas I've seen. Also (this may not interest some) xbox 360 pads work a treat.

At the moment this really does feel like a true-to-the-original remake, very impressed.

Thanks Squirt, that's exactly the sort of info I was looking for.Someone who remembers (and played) the original.
The trouble with remakes is that in most cases they are so far removed from the original idea that one can get quite disappointed when you see what has become of a game you played to death and loved so much.

Hopefully as it moves through beta it will get polished into a true re-make.Something I will enjoy playing as much as the original.Maybe. smile

It's certainly deeper than first appears! The AI is a bugger, taking my islands whilst I'm trying to work out what to do lol.
