lol. Yeah, well...I just thought it looked pretty good. It does get crazy to be praising fences I know, but the point is everything looked better integrated than on the COD map...anyway.

No worries. Over-reaction on my part really.

The thing is that I REALLY hate a lot of aspects of the COD map - it comes close to being a complete deal-breaker for me. Really have a hard time wanting to fly over England at times. They seemed to have done a decent job on the Russian one so a bit of praise seemed in order. I hope the reworked graphics will include some tweaking to improve the situation in COD.

This game is a real test of your patience though, and I really can't understand why they couldn't have released some improvements to FM, AI, etc, etc, etc while they sort out the graphics engine?

Agreed Kendo, you prob remember me posting LOTS of pictures of how England looks and moaning my arse off about how the release version of CLOD was way off the mark. I got toasted both sides by a few people here and at 1C about it, now im not saying they changed the terrain colors on my behalf but i think it helped.
The terrain now is better but still not really England but its closer than before.
We all hope will get the fixes that are needed to bring CLOD closer to what it should be but its not looking good to me.

We still need so many changes that at the rate were seeing patches its going to take forever and some of the changes Luthier has said we dont need or wont come until BOM.

I may be a Debbie downer but i cant see CLOD being fixed to a state where it can be used for online wars or COOPs and that's the meat and potatoes of sqds.

Luthier has told us they are working on the FMs and AI for BOM as well as all the other things we have seen, so the excuse of the graphics holding up other work doesn't wash for me.

Lets hope were getting "another big surprise" with the patch but i wouldn't hold your breath.

And sorry for singling you out Kendo, no offense was meant to you personally, it was just your post at 1C almost made me spit my coffee smile

Edit. To be honest it looks like the development team just dont have the skills to give us what we want or what other teams deliver, it feels like a budget title, made on a budget buy a low cost team, now since Oleg had 7 mill and 7 years, you wonder where it all went.

No worries furbs. I find myself increasingly flipping between attacks of wild enthusiasm and complete exasperation regarding the game.

They seem to be making a big push to get the patch out before knocking off for their Easter break, so I'm hoping we finally see it this week.

But it's true, welcome as it will be this patch will just make a poor game run more smoothly...! The real work and improvements start once the foundations are secure - hopefully.

The thought of that is what is really helping me keep the faith - actually it's the only thing - finally having enough horsepower to get the animations included, the FM updates and tweaked AI, AA, a bit more tuning of lighting and effects and some tlc for the Channel map. Finally dynamic weather and a dynamic campaign, though they could really be years away...

On the other side there haven't been "new" complaints for quite some time.
I am for shure NOT against gamers which are unhappy with the state of CoD, as i myself would like to play it bug-free.
I just dont like the missing patience as the problem solving is already under way, that i see as immature and quite sad as the average age here is 30+, i believe.

How do you want people to complain about new issues when there has been literally nothing new in months apart from sneak peaks at another game ? As for problem solving, it's so much under way some are beginning to think it's down right buried...

Promises of updates that never come and tales of sequels in development may work for some, but they don't for a lot of us.
Funnyhow the ecstatic fanbois applauding with starry eyes as 1C dangle their keys over the crib are the same ones calling the impatient, unsatisfied crowd "immature".

Cheers

Nico

PS : I'm not over 30 yet, I can say whatever wink

Thanks Nico,

you've helped me to make my point.

Btw, trying to seperate the CoD fans, which is everybody here or someone is in the wrong forum, in "fanbois" and "whiners" is also a sign if immatureness, imo, of course.

If anybody here doesn't want CoD to grow and prosper, he/she/it should really think about his/her/its choice of forum.

In the end if there is nothing new, there is nothing to complain about.

The patch to end all patches has to be as error-free as possible, and that can't be rushed.

My pleasure, since you're really not disproving my own opinion on the matter, on the contrary...

Consider it, maybe the ones who whine are actually the ones who most desperately want this game to succeed. Why who anyone who hates this game and doesn't want it to grow and prosper even bother to criticize it and come back to the forums day after day for a year ? Call me a whiner, I see myself as more of a whining fanboi.

And who put up the barricades ? Was it the people pointing at the flaws in the CoD's development and in 1C's management of the situations, or those who just couldn't tolerate any criticism, as if refusing to see the faults in the sim ?

I fully agree with your last statement, still, the lack of solid, tangible evidence that there is indeed work being done, making it look as though nothing new is going on with the sim or it's emergency re-development, is very disappointing and something 1C should work on fixing soon. Leaving the community in the dark and asking them to buy promises at face value while communicating almost exclusively on non-CoD or non-flight simulation related development doesn't exactly encourage optimism and definitely does not satisfy those of us the botched release turned into hard sceptical.

Now we need to decide who displays the most immaturity : the ones sucking on 1C's giant "friday updates, honey talk and Il-2 previews" pacifier, crouching in the corner of the room, rocking back and forth mumbling everything will be alright , or the ones who stopped believing in unicorns, keeping the torches lit and the pitchforks sharpened until something tangible comes up to prove things are going in the right direction.

Cheers

Nico

To be honest, I have seen it from both sides. As soon as there is a discussion some people take it personal and make a war out of it. In addition some people are completely incapable to write in a way without attacking another over a different oppinion. There are very few objective posters left. Though its good. It means that 1C is successful with what they are doing. People stay and voice there good / bad opinion after every Friday. If they would have given up they wouldn't be in that forum and posting there anymore except they would have been overly emotionally attached to a computer game which might be more a case for a psychatrist :-). It shows that there are still enough enthusiasts around who will buy the next release immediately (I am one of them) and that there are enough who are now sceptical.
This is a kind of evolution. The devs have to ensure that the next release is right. This can contribute to a good release at the end which will be good for all of us.

The problem is, that kind of engine work is not easy to prove with screen shots. What we get are statements of an engine rework and WIP pictures of the next commercial release. This shows us following:
- They still can employ people, so there must be someone putting money behind this - I doubt they got enough from the CLOD sales. Noone one would do this and finance a rewrite of an engine for an existing game only. With such a business case at the hand they have to go both ways. Good thing, there is a possibility that the issues of CLOD will be fixed along the way as they have to deliver now. For me again that is evolution. Discussion again shows that many people are passionate about it :-).

- Redeveloping a new engine is unfortunately something which is not in the range of the normal tweaks patches should have. Getting this done with a complex engine like a flight sim engine within ~12 months is actually quite impressive. I have seen work on less complex engines which took longer. Its a bit unfortunate that we don't are in their SCRUM meetings to see their sprint agendas.

All of us. Big men and their toys you know smile. You should see how high the eyebrow of my misses goes up when she sees me running into the kitchen for a coffee with my TRACKIR on the cap. One look tells it all ...

A tour of the IC studios would definitely give people alot more respect for the work being done.
