Unless I'm going doo-lally, I thought we had an EAW model of this plane, used in regional defence squads during the battle of France.



If we have, anyone know where it lurks?

The only obvious real differences are the gun pods, the radiator, and the undercart fairings.

Hi,

according to Wipi only 13 planes got into service and no combat reports are known. The pilots disliked this plane and its flight and gunnery performence was very poor.

Is this plane realy needed??

There are hundrets of other important WWII EAW planes in bad condition.

Just a thought.

Other sources have this plane used in local defence squads that saw action in both northern and southern France during the 1940 battle, so I'm including it in the new Dunkirk.

My sources suggest only 18 were available for combat and were used by local area defence flights, most if not all flown by escaped Polish pilots - bit like the Caudron C714. Apparently the Poles found it slightly amusing - Dutch airframes, French Engines*, Belgian Machine Guns, Polish Pilots and French Skies ( *11 had Gnome Rhone engines and the rest Hispano Suizas). Both the Koolhaven and the Caudron saw very limited service but worth including anyway I suppose.

I see you mentioned being "Doo-Lally" which is an Indian Army phrase I have not heard for many a year. My late father served in India and Burma and although like so many of his generation he never talked about it he did use the expression "Doolally Tap" when referring to anybody who seemed mentally ill. This always puzzled me but Wiki says this refers to the British Army transit camp at Deolali (spelling may be wrong) and that "Tap" means "fever" hence bored out of their skulls in the camp, but after Mum died we got hold of Dad's Army records. He was sent to a hospital at Deolali camp due to an infection but it seems many of the patients in the hospital were suffering from what I will call "Battle Fatigue" so perhaps Doolally (Tap) means mentally exhausted or Mad! Actually, this brings up mixed emotions as until she died a couple of years ago aged 93 my mother always complained that Dad never got any medals, but when we checked his records we ended up being sent 3 which he apparently never claimed, including the Burma Star.

I can see both side of the argument over whether or not to include rarer planes in the various scenarios.



On the one side, indeed there are other planes that sorely need upgrading, I can atest to that since sifting through the EAW inventory looking for planes to include in the new DAW scenario. There's some really bad models out there.

Plus, Ralf has to fabricate flight data for all these planes.



There's only so much time for these pursuits.






OTOH, it's pretty easy for me to take something like the MB152 and tweak it into the Koolhoven 58. In fact it's a lot easier and faster than building a new model of a more numerous plane type. Put this in the "more the merrier" category.



I can understand that there are some guys here who like purely historical setups so they might not want to come up against a "what-if" aircraft and that's fine but if a plane was actually deployed in some number then it is historical.

Personally, I'd like to see what I could do in something like a P-35A vs a Ki-43 in a Philippines scenario. There were only 30 or so P-35's deployed there which isn't a lot more than the 18 KH58's available in France. In both cases I guess they got their asses handed to them on a platter.



So, I guess I haven't helped the debate.
