On occasion when playing MP the next map does not load for me and just hangs on the loading screen. When I alt+tab out I see the status icon in the web browser shows that I am playing the game when I am not. Anyone else get this issue or is it just me?

Common problem.

It may help if you alt tab out and minimize the game before the the next map loads wait 30 seconds then bring up the game again, works for me anyway.
I used to get the black screen all the time however I recently bought a new video card and used the latest drivers and I don't think the problem is as bad.

VERY common problem...just got it post-patch, so they didn't fix jack. Unfortunately it's such a pita to load the game every time it freezes and get on the same squad as friends that it pretty much ruins the game for me. FU Dice

I have to agree with you there NoName. It is such a hassle for me to join any server that I know play Bad Company when I want to run around shooting stuff.

I had this problem on 90% plus of the map changes. Was bad enough that I stopped playing BF3 for some time. Started right after the November 22 patch and has been reported more times then I can count by more then just me. EA's respose? "Have you contacted one of our support advisors?" My game ran pretty good prior to that patch but whatever.

Anyway, I just purchased a new PC. I re-installed on that new PC and have not encoutered a "hang" on map load yet. My quess is that it has to do with one of a couple of things. One, disc drive speed. Two, CPU speed (this was I think my specific issue). And three, internet communication between server and user getting hung up due to something in the internet adapter being funky.

I think you’ve got the right idea Gruug.

I’ve been a fan of BF3 ever since release and what I’ve learned from monitoring resource usage is that BF3 is a RESOURCE HOG! It sucks up close to 4 GB of RAM pretty easily, as well as close to 1.5 GB of graphics RAM on some maps. It also squeezes every GHz it can get from every core of your CPU and GPU.

I think the problem is that if you have an older computer or a computer that might not be tuned well, BF3 will find its weakness and make it crap out on you.

IMO, BF3 is almost literally a hardware "bully" that tries to b1tch slap your computer silly LOL biggrin

Well that is funny because I don't have ANY other problems with games, programs, stress tests, etc. etc. It's obviously a BF3/Origin/PunkBuster problem as the game will still run in the background i.e. doesn't crash/freeze, it just won't load the next level. Also when I first bought the game I didn't have any of these problems, only since the latest patch (actually two patches ago, the latest just didn't fix anything).

I guess it could be a router issue, as I share one with my roommate who also plays BF3 (well, used to until he constantly got the "black screen"). But I've been thru the firmware over and over trying all the tricks and making sure everything is legit and it still happens. It's very random too...just the other night I actually played 3-4 maps straight and no "black screen", but then last night I got it on nearly every map change.

Maybe it's something to do with the servers? I vary rarely connect to the same one every time so I haven't narrowed that down

Hey guys it also just like you internet depends on where you are and what time you log on. It's kinda like going to Disney Land. If you go through the week when fewer people are their you get to go on all the rides with no waiting BUT go on a weekend when it's full and you will wait and wait and wait.

Also you can point the finger at EA for poor underpowered servers. They were not just voted the worst company in America for nothing.

Have A Great Racing Sunday
