Factory new - as in, just rolled out of the factory the day before. Ummm..might wanna look at those fuel endurance numbers fellas.. Fuel leak sounds like a good idea though!

Shouldn't that have more than 4 hours endurance ? Maybe they didn't have full tanks, but that would be just too stupid.

Are they n00bs? Don't you always have a divert airfield in mind in case things go wrong? Surely they realized they were low on gas before they went down... or maybe the fuel gauge was broken? On a one-day-old machine?

What would you use as an alternate for, say, Bermuda? Your theory works most of the time. Some of the worst flights I ever had were post heavy maintenance and post manufacture flights.
