I'm able to enjoy BoB on this system w/all graphics set to High, save the landscape density & weather. Those must be set to Medium.
My FPS will average around 49 during the historical selections- 24 planes in the air, AAA blasts on full force, the channel's water glistening, tracer fire, powder trails, Hi-res landscaping & medium cloud cover. Plenty of eye candy for even the most picky, as far as I'm concerned.
I'm currently using ver2.05 as I see the next versions feature graphical improvements or modifications to a great degree.

Now I notice over on YouTube that they make several mentions to placing/modifying an AI remark in the txt file.
I'm curious to know if I can use those statements in ver205 or not.
I"m afraid to update for fear the newer graphic integrated into these mods will lower the FPS I have already.

So what's a fella like me to do?
Can I inject some AI mods into the bdg.txt file (and if so, what do you recommend) or....do I just stay put
at ver2.05 and forget the other updates until I have a faster video card...?
Thank You-

I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think later enhancements can be edited in just by altering the BDG.txt

Reading your post, looks like you have particles set to high - that setting is usually recommended to stay at medium due to the demands it places on your system.

You could make a backup of your current install and try the latest patch. It really is a vast improvement all round and if you're not happy revert to the backup. The extra detail is scaleable and worth it just for the AI enhancements.

Alternatively make the backup and try some of the patches in between. 2.05 is quite old...

Buddye will probably add his comments soon. Hope I'm not too far out!

Thanks Vit, and I had thought about the backup/test thing.
But as I installed BoB, I witnessed a windows command window pop and it displayed alot of files being written into the /System/32 subdirectories. Without pulling the enamel off of my teeth, I'm not gonna dig thru to see what they were, but it tells me that a simple backup might not do the trick for these files could have variances as the different patches are applied.
I had a go yesterday of removing BoB after it was patched to 2.11 and I saw alot of graphical addons that were taxing my FPS. So I re-installed and patched it to 2.05 and later 2.08 this am.
FPS w/Full graphics (including setting weather to high) were tolerable. But this was just a test.
I'm very sure once the skies are crowded , I'd have to change the weather back down to medium.

But I took the spitfire up to 39K ft to see what serious impact would take place on the frames..
none worth writing about. It was just a simple take-off/land sequence found in the IA..

Honestly, though, this sim is my new girlfriend that I've been waiting to come along.
What a Ride!! What a Ride-
Lethal, Sexy, Smoothe, Fluid, Stable...and a campaign engine to boot.

I am not sure about your PC specs but I would recommend you try the 2.09 version. Remember for BoBII all you need is the basic game (2.01) installed and then the one version you want to try.

The 2.09 version has most of the AI improvements without most of the object and landscape improvement.

You can then tune your install using the procedure in the following link:

http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=10091

The above link is a sticky thread on the A2A forums where the BOBII forums are located and most BOBII players and developers hang out. You may want to visit and sign up to be a member so you can post but you may also want to read all the sticky thread on all the forums as some of the information will help you learn and understand BOBII's game play features, options, and keys.

I've noticed there can be a trick to unloading and reloading BoB- Lemme Share, please.
Last night I reloaded BoB ver204...patched it up to 205.
Soon afterward, I wanted to try a later patch. I executed the 2.05 patch.
Then subsequently 2.08 and 2.10-
Played BoB for awhile...all sweet, then boom....CTD-
Then it dawned on me that I had told the 2.10 installer to kill background apps...this might have been the culprit, as this is my first CTD using BoB.
Anyway--
Afterwards, I realized that I didn't want the 2.10, but the 2.09-
Having uninstalled the program, then use my registry tracer to help me locate any addresses to BoB...
Then reload the program again...finally got the oem ver2.04 to start.
So now to test the 2.09
It's like any new girlfriend, ya just gotta be patient.
Teach 'em right-

Next Question, Please-
Isn't there an update schematic being followed where a user can download updates to the intelligence part of the sim and seperate updates for the graphical parts of the sim?
It would seem that users w/lower end systems are faily much stuck at 2.05...
I do believe that the graphical revisions started w/2.06, please correct me if I am wrong.
Thusly, alot of user might like the graphics that the oem Shockwave introduced up to 2.04-
We get nice framerates at those graphics (models-landscapes & such)

What is a person to do?
Will 2.09 leave my current graphics in place or is there a folder or sub-directory that I can backup/restore?
Thanks Buddye & Dux-

No need to dally, just install 2.09 as Buddye recommends and you can always roll back to 2.05 if you prefer.

I find the biggest gfx hits in BoBIi come from particle size, trees and flak.

Buddye did a 'flakfix' hotfix patch which allowed users to adjust the amount of flak, or turn it off completely...he may still have that file?

Do a very fresh install of 2.09 and then tune your BOBII using the strategy here:
