Fixed a few of my issues that made me think it lower marks... ugly ground objects and difficulty getting it selected due to big/slow fingers... (ask my wife, lol)...

Ya k, nice tank battle we got going, still learning... Trying to figure out how to turn my tanks, front towards enemy... Wish I could tell what the sight distance is, try to move my tanks to flank u but engaged early.

To turn your tank, after you move just point to the square next to your tank in the direction you want to turn, it will show you a little turn icon, doesn't seem to cost much action points.

Kludger, congrats... U kicked my ass on that one. US tanks should not go head to head with German tanks, but I could never get into a flank hit position... Lost every tank, lol.

Yeah thanks Mag, that was fun, I got lucky having the German armor and I think I figured out some of the LOS and facing mechanics a couple of turns ahead of you, probably was good for my part since I'm a newbie at these games and it kept me motivated but I'm sure in a level field you'd beat me no prob.

I'm really liking BA and PBEM so I'd be up for more games anytime if you feel like giving it another go.

Is that the most expensive game on iPad now?

Probably close to it at $20, but unlike most other iOS games, Battle Academy is the full blown game same as on the PC and Mac where it costs $29.99.

I for one welcome this model, I'd rather pay full price for a deep PC like game on iPad, than pay $2.99 for a limited "mobile" light game with less features, hopefully it will pan out financially for them.

I've got two going now...One where Magnum and I are fighting it out to see who makes the most idiot moves LOL and another "public" match I just started where clearly I'm playing a guy who has played many times before, because it is a huge battle on a huge map and I'm getting wasted.

How to play live?

you don't play live... you do your turn then it uploads to the server, they check in and play the turn, then upload there end... repeat.

Rends, if you sign up on their Slitherine forum you can have it email you when it is your turn, and then what happens is if both players are online and in the mood to play you will see you finish your turn, then a few minutes later if the other player finished their turn you get an email and so on... Magnum and I played a bunch of turns back and forth in one session when we were both apparently playing our turns as soon as we got the email.

However, today I won't be able to play constantly being Easter and all. However, I bet we'll make good progress. I'll pick a scenario I've never done before so it is new to both of us!

Anyone knows why white flag units don't recover in multiplayer. I currently have 4 tanks white flagged since 2 rounds. So far i could see noone was shooting at them. they are completely useless and i have left 3 rounds only :-(

Everytime a unit is shot and hit, it's morale drops from a high of 100. The white flags happen when your morale is lowered by being suppressed:
morale < 50 you see the white flag
morale < 1 they surrender if shot at by adjacent enemy
morale < -99 they rout and never recover

I've had success even in multiplayer recovering 0 morale units back up to >50 (where the white flag disappears) by moving them away from the front lines and setting them to "hold fire" for a few turns, the thing is the lower the morale the more turns it will take for it to go >50.

Suppression by lowering morale has been one of the effective tactics I use, once an enemy unit is revealed or reveals itself especially if it is superior to my nearby units I try to direct lots of fire at it from multiple sources, and usually unless it manages to kill all of the attacking units, you can lower it's morale to the point that it might retreat under the surrounding crossfire.

This tactic has worked well to break through some bad situations where my units were bottled in by superior armor, I can sometimes mass a few units and sacrifice a few to pour on the fire in a single point to break through and flank. Very cool that BA supports these sort of tactics and morale modeling.

Wow Airdrop, I was trying to accept one of your games and it kept telling me, wrong password, so I kept trying new ones, but then I noticed despite the wrong password error I now have 3 of your games in progress...

Not sure I can handle 3 at the same time, would prefer just one or two, so feel free to cancel one or two unless you are ok just doing them sequentially?

We can do sequentially. It won't let me cancel the others. No biggie!

Can anyone explain the hold fire option?



Normaly you see the nationsicon like the ones on the at-gun and tank but you can switch to the smaller icon with the hand.

But i'm not sure about the differences. With the hand symbol on won't they shoot never back? Or only when attacked? If so doesn't react the units without the handsymbol the same? I'm confused here.

Yeah the hand with the cross means they are in holdfire mode, they won't shoot unless being attacked, very important for ambushes and recovering morale, here's what the manual says:
Hold Fire – Tell the unit to holds its fire and stay in ambush. Units holding fire will not engage enemy units unless they have been attacked. Units automatically stop holding fire when they shoot. Holding fire is very important when defending. You must take the best shot, not the first shot. Wait until the enemy is close and your initial attack will be more effective. Surprise is your key advantage. Give away your position too soon and you’ll pay dearly.

Airdrop sorry I haven't played any turns in our game yet, it's a working weekend for me and I haven't had the time to do a full turn yet without pausing and don't want to keep trying as the server then sends me a nastygram about downloading the turn too many times from not finishing it and having to redownload again when I resume play later, I think the message is an anti cheat but I suspect it is being triggered when resuming causes redownload.

after the weekend, I'll jump back into a game or two. whatever up, if none up, i'll throw a couple up SimHQ

Rends and i are playing one now... and he's dominating... like 8 tanks to my 3, now 1... anyone else find or think some or most of these missions are lopsided? I also felt that way with my 2 games with Kludger and my 1 game with Airdrop... I still had a wave of extra tanks when Airdrop was out... or is it just me? making excuses for my suckage, lol.

Yes it seems that some (i havn't played a lot of different maps) missions are not even. The one we are playing seems to favor the axis side but not much. I saw a few tactical errors by the allieds. Better tell you machinegunners not to put the guns on the road ;-)
Btw: you are playing the christmas mission against my son. Just in case you are wondering wo he is.
Be aware i lost most missions against him!

well thats even more embarrassing, lol.... that machine gun is suppose to be in that house next to the road, lol.... Well I know I need to get a flank shot on German armor, but can't get around the line of sight, the maps not very wide.

Yeah you might be right Magnum, I think the only way to know for sure it to come back and play the same mission from the other team next time.

It seems to me that defending tends to be easier than attacking (probably realistic), so in the scenario where one person defends and the other attacks the attacker is going to lose many units. Also the unit types and TOE for each mission also seem to be just enough units, so that if you lose one of the key units then you end up on the back foot with that missing capability unless you find a way to knock out the same capability from the enemy.

I look forward to playing these missions from both sides and actually I already accepted from Airdrop the same map we are running right now but where the sides are switched, should be pretty interesting.

I am pretty sure I just screwed up that one with you as it was my first. But, I've got one right now with Kludger where he's about to clean my clock I think. I like the smaller scale battles so far. I've got to learn how to scout better and use "hold fire" more. I think Kludger is right that defending is easier. We'll see how kludger and I do switching sides on that map when we finish up the one now!

Do you guys know if you can pick what side you play in the single player campaign and, if so, how? I need practice!

I haven't played far in the single player campaign, just the first two Africa desert missions after the tutorial and it didn't seem like you could pick sides to me, maybe on other campaigns.

I'm actually learning more on multiplayer I think, but learning the hard way lol, you've got a pretty good push going into that town, my poor defenders are getting overrun

So far i know you can play allied sides only in Singleplayer campaign.

My problem with the hold fire command... so they will only return fire? What if i want them to hold fire till the enemy is danger close, ambush them in surprise... then should I be leaving fire mode on or hold?

If you have them in hold fire mode they will ignore the enemy until you take them off hold fire mode, or until the enemy is in the square next to them where they will ambush them, or until the enemy fires on them at which point they will fire back.

I've found hold fire mode very useful to either ambush or let enemy pass by so you can get a shot at the weaker side/back armor (or for suppression recovery) very much needed especially when trying to handle a superior force while you move other units in for support.
