hi All,

I am looking to get a SSD for my PC to make it the ultimate system well as best as I can afford..

I was looking into getting a Crucial C4 but some of the reviews are a little worrysome..

I was wondering where can I find some Professional reviews and such to help me Pick a Solid SSD....

Or does anyone here use 1 any Pros Cons I should be looking for.. AnyHelp would be Highly Appreciated so I can get a Very Good SSD!!

Want SATA III, Sandforce 2xxx series controller (or more up to date if there are any).

Want one big enough that, ideally, you rarely use more than 50 percent of the capacity. On sale, the price should be about $1 per 1GB (I've recently noticed SATA III SSD from 60GB to 240GB at roughly that price). I got this one for $120 on sale (I now see I need a 240GB minimum the way I use a computer):

Corsair Series 3

Its very fast, but there are some others (e.g. top Corsair architecture) a bit (probably never notice the difference) faster for a bit more money per 1GB. This one got really good reviews for speed and reliability.

Main finding: While it does speed up loading times a bit, usually the improvement is not dramatic -- seems the CPU has to crunch a bit too to get a program ready, and that CPU crunch time remains the same. Windows 8 loads very fast on SSD (but, the BIOS still takes a long time before Windows starts to load). Has almost no impact on games I play -- does reduce stutter from occasional to almost never in a game that loads big textures at times.

Conclusion: SSD does make a "visible" improvement -- which very few hardware changes do (even a faster CPU rarely makes a "visible" change). So, its worth trying. But, in normal computer operation (applications and games), the improvement was not dramatic for the way I use a computer. Right now, I have it installed as a Windows 8 dual-boot disk -- and its a place to install a game that benefits from SSD (even if the game runs from my Windows 7 boot).

WEll I am NOT sure what I want that is why I am asking for some reviews and get some info on a SSD so I can make a Educated desicion on a GOOD SSD..

I do know what I want..

1. 256gb capacity..
2. SATAIII, that is the 6gb ports correct??
3. Not sure on which make, who makes a GOOD SSD??
4. Price about $300-$350..

WEll I am noticing my HDD Light is on Alot so I know what I mostly do accesses the HDD. So I thought with a SSD this will Help speed things along.. I do Play some MMO's and they usually taker a while to load inbetween maps and dungeons and stuff..

So If I can gain some time in accessing those faster would be worth it too me.. Also Boot Times for me is important.. I hate waitning for Win7 to boot up or any version of Windows.. I have heard the BOOT times are drastcially reduced on Bootup..

I would just want to get my Current system to RUN as Optimally as I can afford and an SSD seems the Next logical step..

NO, I HATE TO WAIT.. If I multiply 30 seconds time how many times a year I boot up I would probally have wasted Years of my life booting up over a lifetime

I am just tryin g to squeeze as much performance I can out of thisd sytem an SSD seems the next logical step..

Pretty much would make your system a lot faster booting, no doubt.

Hey there, I have been doing some reading around myself on this subject. Anectodal reports and reviews suggest it makes a huge difference to Boot times and general responsiveness of the OS and any programs running from it.
Whats stopped me so far is price, and reports of unreliability. If anyone can help me with my lack of money please PM me and I'll send you my bank details. As for reliability, Intel seems to be the way to go on that score.

Intel SSDs have 5 year warranties with MLC, I saw recently - that's pretty darn good. I'd add a backup drive, a regular hard drive, and run a daily backup to it - it can be internal or external.

The consensus I hear is that SLC NAND memory is longer lasting than MLC, but they look to be more expensive.

An alternative is a hybrid drive - SLC NAND flash for often used files like OS boot files, and regular HDD storage space for all the stuff you add. I recently put one of these 2.5" form factor drives into my big rig to run DCS A-10C from and it halved my load times.
