Nice review Magnum, great game, I am impressed especially for a console.

Great review! I picked it up on release day but haven't had time to mess with it much. One thing that I didn't see in the review was the replay feature that allows you to watch a replay of your mission. My only gripe is that sometimes the replay doesn't match up with what happened 100%. Still impressive for a console game though.

Good review, for a second I was sorry I don't own a console and this title.

Gaijin does good job with these titles, I hope to see Korea sim for PC from them one day (dunno about those planes screens in War Thunder:WOP)

Good review on a decent product. Looking forward to seeing what they do with War Thunder.

Nice review, Mag! I'm not usually a fan of sim-lite flight "sims", but I may have to give Birds of Steel a shot. Thanks!

Good review, Magnum!

Ingame head tracking support via Kinect would be brilliant in this game.
Even in a flightsim lite on a console I´m pretty much useless tracking with a thumbstick.

Spot on regarding the realistic settings during the camapaign missions.
I rage quit after countless tries stopping the Kates bombing Wake Island on realistic setting with limited ammo during the American campaign.
Will give it another try on arcade during the next days. wink

Nice review Magnum! It's exciting to see how Gaijin evolves their games from one to the next, always giving what fans have been asking for. One of the few sims to offer torpedo bombing right out of the box, just as I know I've requested from them on their forums.
Next I'd love to see a game just like this covering Vietnam through the 80's with jets. I'd love to see what they can do with an A-10, F-4's and the like.

Very concise but thorough review Magnum! thumbsup

I downloaded the demo for my Xbox 360 and I was pleasantly surprised. clapping

I'm a console convert from my days of flight sims on the PC and have found most of the console flight "games" too arcade for my tastes. However, Birds of Steel has enough "simulation" elements in it to make it fun and hold my attention for some time.

I'll be picking up the retail copy of Birds of Steel tomorrow along with my pre-order of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13.

Nice read there!

Tech bit: Consoles can draw about 10x more moving parts than a PC with Direct3D draw calls limitation:
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2011/03/16/farewell-to-directx/1

And consider that an aircraft has at least 10 moving parts... Add a pilot, add at least two calls if the head tracks. Moving arms? Add 5 or 6 (with stick/yoke). Gunner? 6 calls for each too. A fully crewed B-17 would therefore require around 70 calls.
