@fatty: Yep, the fix to the Expansions menu is much of what prompted me to go for this, since you no longer have to say to a player "add all this arcane crap to your shortcut, use a confusing launcher (or some monster colorbomb UI like SIX Updater), sacrifice a goat, etc." just for players to use an addon or two.

I have a really neat fight on Thirsk winter with a crazy snowstorm effect. It should be intense.

Smile2 Except me. To get the game to play from my RamDisk I have to mess with the shortcut. In my Expansions menu some things show twice because they are being redirected to the RamDisk. I just have a "master" runACO file that I change up if I need to. I usually don't change anything as I keep it simple with a directory like @Islands. I just dump new or updated maps into that.

You could continue using that approach with this if you wanted. Just copy all of the PBOs out of them into the folder. Since nothing interacts with any other stuff in a way that the baseline stuff is changed, there'd be no problems.

Just an update. We are still waiting to hear on redistribution permission for a few mods. Missions are ready for every new map, along with two new missions on Takistan and one on Zargabad, all using new units. A few more mods have been cut as part of testing -- I am a vicious editor. I won't post a final list until it is actually final.

I will take some time to work on my client-side mods, then I will begin porting COIN and Evo to the new maps and add the new units. TBH Evo needs completely rehauled and I think I can recreate a similar type of encounter within the framework of my COIN system.

Sounds good. The thing I like about Evo is that I can hop in and fly an A-10 or AV-8B right off the bat and have plenty of targets to engage. Then I can land (or most likely get shot down) and hop in a tank and finish off a town. That is why I was requesting Evo for the new maps. It is a great way to learn the area.

Tao, I can't believe I didn't mention this before, probably because I think of this addon as "part" of the game now, but did you look at Robalo's ASR AI? It can run either client or server side and it's really impressive. Suppressive fire, taking cover, AI that will actually engage you with a rifle from more than 100 yards and AI that will not only reload from their backpacks, but reload from other backpacks, or if they completely run out of ammo, they'll go scavenge other weapons.

It might be more than what you were talking about, but it's about one-hundredth the hassle or bulk compared to something like ACE, which no one really seems excited about here (myself, included). Just a simple small .pbo and a config file.

ASR AI can be run server-side only and would be nice IMO, but changing the AI is a whole bag of cats, because it will dramatically change older missions. For example, missions that are currently fine when you start would begin with enemies engaging right off the bat due to the much more realistic vision range of ASR AI-enhanced units. So it's not really feasible at this time.

A further delay is now underway due to concerns about repackaging, rather than simply redistributing, certain mods. We're trying to get the maps out (at least) as soon as possible though.
