From Fudzilla: "...The new price that partners recieved this morning is $499 .. At $499, the GTX 680 certainly sounds like a much better deal and we are sure that AMD will respond with a similar cut..." GTX680 $499 Let the price wars begin

Turbo on the 680 is a Gimmick, lol, They should be benchmarking it at 1 speed and disable turbo.

Maybe bring down the price of the 580. Exactly, I'm still trudging along with my GTX 285 Superclocked! Maybe soon I will upgrade. Plus the 285 is like having an oven cooking a pot roast in my room. It gets hot in here!!

All AMD has to do is lower the 7970 to $500 and Nvidia is screwed. You also still need 2x680 for surround video. This kneejerk by Nvidia, trying to keep up with the 7970 with a second tier, 2 gig card is not going to keep the multi monitor crowd from buying a 7970. I was holding out for a 3gb card with 3 dvi out from Nvidia that could push 3 monitors. That "expensive" 7970 is starting to look better and better. One card multimonitor solution for today, not next Christmas.

One card multimonitor solution for today, not next Christmas. I can only hope they do that as right now both the 7970 and 680 are overpriced by $100 compared to the previous 5870/480 generations a couple of years ago, a price war is the best thing for us end users. http://fudzilla.com/home/item/26391-nvidia-gtx-680-brings-multi-display-support I think the fact that the 680 added a DisplayPort most likely means it supports multimonitor surround on one card (finally) without SLI, but I haven't seen any reviews yet to confirm, if you've seen confirmation one way or the other let us know, for me this and >2GB VRAM is on my list of must haves for a video card upgrade this year. Most likely I'm waiting for the 690/790 gk110 since this gk104 680 was initially supposed to be the $350 midlevel card, before Nvidia's stalling shenanigans promoted it to the 7970 competition card. http://www.techpowerup.com/162765/GK110-Specifications-Approximated.html

Repeating old news, TSMC shut down 28nm production a few weeks back.
Thus, there soon may be serious shortages in 28nm GTX6xx and HD7xxx cards. That may keep the price war from lowering prices down to where they "should be" in the near future.
If we have to wait long enough (e.g. towards end of Summer), I'll be thinking of waiting for HD8xxx and GTX7xx (either for themselves or to get a good HD7xxx GTX6xx price on closeout). Again, I need a really strong card at a really good price to "out do" what I already have. Others may have other criteria.

Yeah I am in the same wait and see boat, my criteria is I need a single uber card that supports 3 monitors and will finally let me play any game I want at 5760x1080 4xAA/16xAF with high textures, and work well with most of the games I play even legacy or not the current benchmark test games, especially FSX, CliffsOfDover and iRacing...
So far the current generation doesn't meet all the criteria, but I am hopeful for the HD8xxx and GTX7xxx (or GTX690 if it is called that)

It will someday in the next year or two I think, iRacing already runs really well at that exact spec with my old 5870s (and without crossfire) and even better it renders side monitors separately so no stretching... Unfortunately that was the only one of my sims that did Eyefinity really well with decent AA at reasonable framerate, which is why I was ok selling my 5870s and going single monitor with this 560Ti/448 until a card comes out that can handle it. Still hoping the 790 or 8970 or whatever will be a big bump in performance to meet this for most games and not just a couple.
