That's an excellent question and I don't think that has been disclosed yet. We know that Aliens is 57 years after Alien and Alien 3 is pretty much immediately after Aliens and Alien Resurrection is about 200 years after Alien 3 but that's it.

I'm trying to remember if the viral campaign short video with Guy Pearce showed what year it was. I don't think it did.

I think it did, and if I remember right, it was before 2100, which I thought was a little soon. But maybe that speech was set a long time before the majority of the events in Prometheus.

I'm sure the bulk of the film takes place quite a bit after 2023 because that's only 11 years from now and there's no way we are going to have that kind of deep space exploration tech in 11 years. It wouldn't be scifi anymore but an alternate reality!

The corporate timeline for Weyland Industries on its 'official' website says Project Prometheus is underway as of January 1, 2073. Gotta love this kind of marketing for a film.

yeah, the date of 2023 is what prompted to ask earlier in the thread about how guy Pearce fits )if at all) into the Prometheus film which looks much later in the 21st/22nd century. from what Jaz states above it sounds like Prometheus occurs in 2073? ya think?
