I saw this one night last week I think it sucked. And Traci don't look to nice anymore either.

Yeah the cover art told me that much, and probably the reason that the title wasn't re-used.

I couldn't talk my wife into seeing John Carter { She didn't know anything about the books } so I went on my own. I really enjoyed the film despite a couple of cheesy moment's. I thought it had a nice mix of action/Romance, and will watch it again with the family when it comes out on Blue Ray.

I've got a couple of free tickets to the movies, but they're not good for 3D. Maybe I'll use them to see this (since I heard the after-the-fact 3D wasn't that great). How bad can it be for free? smile

well...at least Disney is being honest about the loss from John Carter.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/d...clNS_story.html

The Walt Disney Co. said Monday that it expects to book a loss of $200 million on the movie in the quarter through March. That’s among Hollywood’s biggest money-losers ever.

Directed by Pixar’s Andrew Stanton, the 3-D effects-laden movie about a Civil War veteran transplanted to Mars was already headed to the “Red Ink Planet,” according to Cowen & Co. analyst Doug Creutz. Yet he expected a write-down of about half that size.

Disney said “John Carter” has brought in about $184 million in ticket sales worldwide so far. But ticket sales are split roughly in half with theater owners. The movie’s production budget is estimated to be about $250 million with about $100 million more spent on marketing.

In other news, the latest Eddie Murphy film "A Thousand Words" also bombed but that was expected.

Not good hearing about a major scifi movie effort having such a loss. Home sales could add a lot of money, but still, not good.

They could've saved themselves the $100m on marketing at least. Of course, maybe the film would've made less as well, so it's hard to say, but I think you could call it throwing good money after bad to some extent.

I doubt it will be a flop. It will continue to sell worldwide for a few more weeks and probably break even and then it will make it to dvd/bluray and turn a profit. Then it will hit syndication and probably end up being a fairly profitable venture. But it is going to take a few years which is not what a movie executive wants. They want a blockbuster with ever release.
