Yes, they have. Use as a basis what mentioned by TD that 70% throttle with 70% pitch is safe for every plane and condition. Then you must try to find suitable maximum for your ride in that region and season. For instance, A6M-2N in Solomon's map can fly forever at 95/95.

I want trust in other members, but must believe also to my eyes! Yesterday, I was just playing a mission of "Solomon's sentinel" offline campaign and, while following my AI flight leader during his climb, I set all power needed to keep his same climb rate (my radiator fully opened). Well, after a while appeared on my screen the dreaded "engine overheating" message, but I kept same pace and didn't touch throttle. This lasted still much, until, when I seriously feared some engine damage, finally we reached cruising altitude and eventually AI and, as a consequence, me, could throttle back. After a while, overheating message disappeared without engine damage.

I wonder if AI has some special sensor, linked to engine sleeve bearings, that warns when they are close to melt wink . At any rate, AI has still an unfair advantage on player about overheating and I've still not personal evidence of this "AI throttling back when overheated", claimed by many.

In addition, during same mission, when, being shot down, I stayed, watching further AI actions, I set seeing an enemy SBD Dauntless, pursued by a friendly AI Rufe, viewed together in external linked view (F6). While the former set itself in the "customary" wide level turn, the latter followed, firing short bursts, which ALL went UNDER enemy's belly, exactly like I see from ever by IL-2 AI, unable (thanksgod for me, fair pilot) to perform a lead pursuit. For the sake of completeness, when finally Dauntless leveled, its tail gunner was able to fire a short burst to the poor Rufe, that immediately hit its engine, which stopped, forcing my mate to an emergency landing.

Frankly yours,
GB

From my experience 4.11 AI has taken a huge step forward. Average/veteran/ace AI can shoot lead shots just fine, they are not perfect but you just cannot escape by making endless shallow turn until they give up. They put up a very realistic fight in my opinion and what is important you can finally use your aircraft advantages in a proper manner. Now I can finally dive away from I-16 in my Bf-109 and I did just that when two AI's got me in a pincer gunning me once from left once from right and in a last desperate move I could push the stick full forward and shake them off by doing a steep dive at 650 km/h which they could not follow. Another big surprise for me was when again AI's caught me at low speed climbing while they were diving on me and the only solution was to dive for a cloud beneath, I was counting every second and hoping to get into the cloud before their shots get me and what a big relief was it to be able to get rid off them in the cloud and prepare a revenge for them a few minutes later with my wingman. These were small moments when I thought I was really there and these were moments that were never possible before 4.11 - for me it is completely a new sim. And lastly in one of my first missions with 4.11 I was defending our base from enemy fighters and saw fast closing I-16 on six of my 109, having bad habbit from the old versions I put my plane into left climbing turn, but I was shocked when I saw the enemy keeping his speed up, doing a lead turn and firing his guns at first a bit infront me and just a second later completely obliterating my plane with the only option for me to jump out. That was the moment when I thought - and now for something completely different.

Thanks for your interesting accounts. Indeed, diving was preferred escape maneuver by '109 pilots also in their ones. Not to mention clouds, while you're another witness of seemingly new AI way to aim. I simply didn't yet watched such a behaviour. Maybe it depends on AI settings in DGen or as set by author in offline campaign.

S!
