Still getting familiarized with this bird. Fun to fly, but tricky to land. Still haven't had a good one yet. Grabbed this off of gog.com at a wonderful 6 dollar price tag! Took some fiddling to get the hat switch on my joystick to correspond to moving the gunnery reticle, but once that was done it was smoooooth sailing!

Starting off every time I love seeing how active the airfield is. Helicopters take off, people stroll around, aircraft take off. It's really great. Too bad the flight controller suffers from voice immodulation, and screams in your ear!

Take off was normal, a lot of yaw when power was added, but with speed comes windmilling, and it becomes easier.

Taking a look around on the way to the range.

On the inbound to the range, I make sure I try and maintain over 300 kmph and an alititude greater than 30m. The targets, a bunch of pallets, become visible on the horizon.

Hopping into the front seat, I look through the FLIR optics, so I have a more unobstructed view.

Was so busy bombing I didn't grab a great view of the bombs, but they smacked right into the pallets. You'll notice I still have four bombs. I wasn't sure I knew what I was doing (the rockets fire control surprised me) so I set it to unlimited ammo for this training flight.

I extend out and pull around for another pass...

Back in the gunners turret, keeping an eye on things...

Pickle (or whatever they say in russian)

Shack!

Time to head home, with two successful bombing runs under my belt.

Arriving at base, I start decelerating and descending.

Gear down and locked (I've forgotten this a few times)

Remember what I said about active airfields? They have their downsides too. GET OUTTA THE WAY!

Despite ground control screaming in my ear out of nowhere, and making me jerk the stick, I did actually manage to land. First time I tried to land I caught myself in a vortex ring at low altititude and smacked into the ground. Learned not to do that pretty quickly.

Success! Take THAT pallets!

So far, awesome game. Loving every minute of it. This game is exactly my speed. Can't wait to start the campaign!

Pickleski? biggrin

I remember being amazed that helicopters could drop bombs when I played this years ago. Good landing.

My character somehow got all twisted up. I was playing the mission where you have to infiltrate the Golden Glow Estate and do multiple things. When I was out burning beehives and fighting I just eventually ran away to view my success from a distance. I first noticed it when I squated down on a tree trunk. Coot..the squatter../simHQ/2011

Quite fun isn't it, this old goodie? Once I got the throttle working I found myself straffing, rocketing, and bombing Mujahidins all weekend long. It's true that she's a b!tch to land, but she moves well in the air. Formation flying is always a blast. That female sound is indeed loud, but nothing compared to the screaming soldiers around Vietnam MedEvac helipads. I always have turn off the speaker on every landing in that sim because the screams are bad enough to ruin my concentration.

I don't want to get off topic, but that mission editor reminds me of Tornado's, also by DI. And a great mission editor it was at the time; especially the fact that it would edit the turns automatically. Not to mention the fact that multiple flight groups could be synchronized to attack specific targets, from different headings at the same time.

BTW, what is the max resolution Hind can be played at?

Video game cruelty potential: Load up some Speznaz, open the doors in-flight and do some aerobatics.

I, of course, never did that back in the day. :halo: :nonchalantwhistle:
