Good question, he doesn't mention on this video how he had the NV driver configured, hopefully the more thorough apples to apples 680 reviews will be coming today so we can tell whether the numbers here are reliable comparison.

But I think even so, if these numbers are representative of the FPS you get during a game and at similar visual quality with FXAA instead of MSAA then that is still a huge jump in real world performance IMHO, one reason I like Heaven is the performance and quality results I've seen with it as I test OC settings seem to match pretty closely what I see in sims.

Also I was not impressed with the max temp of 78c which is much higher than my current card (64c) or the ATI cards (59c)... for people who SLI that may be a big concern especially if the MB slots are close together.

Can't wait to see the reviews, as a non-partial NV/AMD fan this is a great new technology day just like the 7970 release day was biggrin

heaven is usually accurate,

the 680 will be overkill on one screen looking at specs.

I've seen 680s running wide desktop 3:1 + 1 extra on top, but i havent seen any of them running games in anything more than 1 screen configuration.

But like i noted about the temps, looking at the temps of this GPU, its prolly why this GPU was re-badged as the 680 and the actual 680 GPU is not gonna see anything but water and aftermarket cooling.

Which also means the same problems the 4xx series had. Heat and Power Consumption.

if the HD8000s are nice, I'll upgrade and send my 7950 to my brother's system, along with a new CPU and some added ram.

i thought you couldnt cleanly run an nVidia card as a PhysX card on an AMD GPU System.

Moreover it would allow 1-to-1 comparison to a couple years of on-line GPU test results that used Heaven 2.5 benchmark at default settings. Heaven 3.0 seems identical to 2.5 but with more options and different default settings (which is why I requested 2.5 defaults even if using 3.0).

The main numbers to report would be the score and average FPS (minimum FPS would be important, but Heaven does not calculate that in a meaningful way).

Thanks for considering it.

Also, how much did it cost -- pricing rumors varied from $500 to $560 (can't find it on Newegg, yet -- came and went).

Will do. It was 509 for the card and 25 for overnight shipping. Should arrive tomorrow.

In reading the GTX680 reviews, what's impressive is that GTX680 performs on a par with HD7970 -- but is not the "big" Kepler (which seems to be in difficulty). I see some other interesting confirmations, but still not sure enough to discuss.

Like some others here, to justify a new card I want a single GPU card to significantly outperform my two CrossFire HD5870 – particularly at Eyefinity 5760x1200. Will be interesting to see Nvidia 3 monitor numbers.

FWIW, here are my numbers (tests run today) to compare with GTX680 numbers.

I used Heaven 3.0 at default Heaven 2.5 settings (DX11, Shaders High, Tessellation Normal, Anisotropy 4, Anti-aliasing Off, full-screen). CrossFire 2x HD5870 at 900MHz. Note Heaven 3.0 default is NO tessellation (makes a huge difference).

Heaven 3.0

5760x1200: 30.4FPS/766
1920x1200: 81.9FPS/2063
1920x1080: 85.9FPS/2165
1680x1050: 92.7FPS/2335

Update: The GTX680 got 115.1FPS at "default" Heaven 3.0 1920x1080. My system got 129.5FPS at those settings.

3DMark11 Basic Edition Performance Setting (interested in GPU number)

P7881 / GPU 8808

3DMarkVantage (interested in GPU number)

Extreme X17855 / GPU 17778

CINEBench OpenGL doesn't vary much with OC and FPS is the same with and without CrossFire. Scores do vary noticeably from run to run. Not convinced CINEBench means much to a gamer.

CINEBench

OpenGL 62FPS typical, 64.83max with or without CrossFire

I haven't done it myself, planned to try it with my old 8800GT and my 5870s but ended up needing my 8800GT for one of my daughter's hand me down computers...

Here was the link to the Hybrid PhysX info:
http://www.ngohq.com/graphic-cards/17706-hybrid-physx-mod-v1-03-v1-05ff.html

From what I recall the main downside is it was much more complicated to upgrade drivers, so if you are the type that updates to latest and greatest maybe not worth the effort.

I watched the video. That was at "default" Heaven 3.0, 1920x1080. Default is zero Tessellation.

As noted in my update above, I got 129.5FPS at Heaven 3.0 default (no Tessellation), 1920x1080.

Wonder if they really tested at default, or if their default had tessellation turned on.

Be interesting to see shan2's result in Heaven at both 2.5 defaults and 3.0 defaults. shan2, you can clear this one up for us smile

Yeah like you I am pretty sure that he tested at Heaven 3.0 defaults (no tessellation, which was a scare at first until I realized it), that was why I went and ran it on my own system at that same config and my scores fit in just where I expected between the GTX 570 and 580.

Agreed, your crossfired 5870s will still wallop most all single cards, as did mine, the only problem is most of the games/sims I play didn't get benefit from crossfire (FSX, iRacing, CliffsOfDover, rFactor2 etc.) so the crossfired Heaven numbers were misleading for me and I finally had to be realistic and compare single 5870 numbers to the new cards, which is why I'm waiting for the mythical 3 monitor single card uber solution :-)
