That's the Northrop N-3PB Nomad.

Probably Norwegian crewed and flown out of Reykjavik with 330(N)Squadron RAF on convoy protection patrols.

Excellent flyer and well armed, they took on U-Boats, FW200C and the Bv138.

A challenge for you all!
Microsoft have posted a part-picture (engine?) of a new aircraft for Flight on their facebook page...just the sort of thing you like....

Favourite is something like a Beaver, but I don't think thats a propellor in the picture.
If it is its got a non-aerofoil root to the propellor, which I think I've seen but is rare.
Cheers
Keith

Looks more like a tyre to me. Is that a 'y' and an 'e' as in Goodyear?

No, there is a cylinder head visible between spinner and cowling. Would an aerobatics aircraft have such a non-aerofoil prop?

Could it be a landing gear or interplane strut, behind the open cowl of a 1920/30 multi-engine?

I can see the cylinder head on the MS website but the Beaver spinner shouldn't fill that much of the intake.

I think probably either a Zero or, more likely, a T-6 Texan.

Don't forget propeller root aerofoils are pretty thick, both for structural reasons and because the relative airflow is much slower at the blade root than at the tip. So they don't necessarily look like a typical aerofoil. As for the circular cutout in the spinner which accommodates the blade; that allows the blade to rotate around its own axis when the prop pitch is adjusted. Compare the V-22, which has a lozenge shaped cutout for this purpose smile

Cheers biggrin
