Point noted. I was referencing the Career Beta. I suppose that was just a force of habit from other games I have played in the past. Unfortunately, I've yet to last more than a few weeks in ANY of the careers I've started LOL. However, I do recall running into somebody famous in one of my dogfights because their airplane was tagged with the pilot's name (can't remember the name off-hand). So it would seem that, yes, historical aces are integrated into the Career Beta depending on where you're stationed and which squadrons are facing you on the other side of the trenches. (Yes, I've been flying with labels on recently only because I get to fly so infrequently that I absolutely SUCK without them. One of these days, if I ever get any real time to devote to this sim, I'll turn them off and hone my "full realism" chops.)

@PatrickAWilson, Thank you for providing such an awesome campaign generator. I downloaded it last night and have been thoroughly enjoying it! Great Job!

Yes, you can face historical aces in career mode. I wonder, though... Can you fly WITH historical aces in career mode? I'm in a career with Jasta 11 in November 1916, and though he's currently in Jasta 2, I would love to actually (virtually) fly with MvR. I was able to in RB3D, though he was killed in mid-1917 from a midair collision.

You can fly against historical aces but they don't appear in your squadron. Its a decision made by 777, they think there'd be a backlash if Albert Ball appeared as a new pilot and he was killed on his first sortie over the lines.

I sort of wish they would throw the historical aces in there . . . but then they also need to revamp the whole squadron roster from what it is (i.e., veteran squadrons should not start at 0 hours/0 kills). For historical aces, they would probably have to code it so the aces would not get killed until/if they were historically killed, unless killed in a player-flown mission. To my mind, theoretically doable, but who knows if it is practicable given the resources available to 777.
BTW, how did RB3D handle historical aces with player squadrons?

I think it should never be a problem to program the AI aces in your flight never been shot down by other AI or flak. For a player who has shot down a enemy Ace, I think you can make a choice after the campaigns / careers end, like: [] keep on historic time line, Ace is still alive, plane can be claimed as a victory [] Ace is shot down, maybe wounded but made it to his own line, his airplane is scrapped. [] Ace shot down: newspaper: our flyer " X" has shot down the famous enemy ace "Y"

I did it the Red Baron way - the historical aces are in. They can die prematurely. They can score non-historical victories, thereby potentially boosting their tally. Such is war.

Which is the way I would choose to have it. By the way, I haven't tried your generator yet, but I think it's time. Where is the best "one stop shopping" place for the generator, plus all the "need to know" items regarding install, etc?

You can download Pat's campaign on the useful materials page of rise of flight's website. It's in the community section. You will also need to download Java of you don't already have it.
Good Hunting!
