I am very pleased he was wearing the vest. For folks that have never been in a critical sitution it is hard to second guess anothers action. I am also glad no innocents were harmed either, to bad a few did not find the mark in the bad guy.

Magnum did the vest stop all 3 shots? Video description makes it sound like one went through, or hit him outside the vest..?

Glad he's OK. He sure was lucky surviving three shots at point blank...

Shooting back at the car as it drove away was a mistake, but it perfectly highlights how so many cops too often get crap for doing what anybody else in the same situation would have done. As police officers they are expected to display exemplary behaviour under all circumstances, they cannot afford to act as "anybody else" would have, the public and the law demand they be better, above the rest, but they're still people. They get annoyed, run out of patience, get scared or all pumped up on adrenaline and do things maybe they wouldn't have done in a more peaceful state of mind.

Glad he didn't hit any innocents, but with the adrenaline, shock and pain, most of his shots probably went several feet over trafic anyway biggrin

Cheers

Nico

Glad the officer is OK. Hope that there are no lingering effects of the wound. Things can hang on to you your whole life and injuries can rear their ugly heads as you age.

As for errors, perfection is unobtainable and you aren't 100% all the time. So yeah, firing at the fleeing car was a "heat of the moment" error.

I am one of those who sides with the police unless something pretty rotten comes out.

but they had to land somewhere, lol... he admits he probably shouldn't of done that... but in these situations humans react...either fight or flight... if your not the fight type, you probably shouldn't be a cop... I've seen both in my 25 year LEO career. wink

I wonder if the Perp slipped and fell a few times during booking?
Heck of a way to test your vest out. Glad the officer didn't get more seriously wounded.

Even if all 3 hit the vest and he wasn't wounded I am guessing being shot that close is gonna be like Mike Tyson punching you in the stomach/chest? Still gonna knock the wind out of you. Amazing what these vests do and just so scary that someone goes from calm and talking to attempting murder with a gun so fast.

And only 2-3 weeks in hospital? I would have thought bullet wounds would take a lot of recovery.

Glad to hear he's OK.

Two of my closest friends have been police officers here in Germany for the past 20 years and the stories they've been telling me on a regular basis makes me wonder who in their right mind would do that job by choice. Constant exposure to the absolute low-lifes of society, an ever increasing danger of getting attacked and a general public that's very quick in laying the blame on them whenever something ugly happens. And all that for little pay and very little public recognition.

My hat's off to them.
