It looks a bit similar to Janes Fleet command which I liked a lot. Its about time that some new modern Naval Strategy games hit the shelves :-).

Just got it. Played a few training missions. Lost an awacs, an F35 and a Drone during one mission. Did sink a ship and shot down 3 enemy fighters though. Need to practice more!

I'm working on a review for Doug and want to test out the multiplayer component. Anyone want to schedule a time to get together and give it a try?

Well, I've not heard anything bad about it yet. After getting burnt by Paradox Gettysburg: Armoured Warfare I was waiting the demo (which was supposed to be on Steam yesterday) but I may go ahead and buy now.

While I didn't find the demo on Steam last night, the full game was on there and an additional free game with the purchase, until the 17th, so I figured for $20.00, what the heck.
A few things I noticed:
-I dislike not having an option to use NTDS style symbols versus a non-standard outline of whatever vehicle is represented.
-It is very similar to Janes and seems to have some great potential to port over to say, an IPad or tablet. The overall download was just under 1gb, so relatively small in comparative game terms.
-No mission editor, which isn't a big flaw for me yet, depending on number of missions contained within. I have only made it into the 2nd mission. I dislike that you are only able to play until objectives are met. I would like to have an option to play beyond the objectives, to refine strategies and such.
-Jamming is a bit quirky and doesn't work the same as using the weapons selection. (Admittedly, haven't read the manual, if there is one so maybe it is defined in the manual)
-Graphics aren't bad at all, very reminiscent of Janes, though I think they are a bit crisper.
Anyway, just my .02 that I've witnessed thus far and am looking forward to diving a bit more into it tonight. I noticed too, that when I changed the video settings, you will need to restart the game, otherwise it will not work, at least on my machine. I am looking forward to an official SimHQ review. I do think there is much potential, considering there's been a drought for way too long in regards to modern naval warfare.
Matt

Admittedly, I have an hour or two each evening, just not sure what you're schedule is like or time zone you're in. I'm pacific, so anytime up until 11 is fine for me

-Graphics aren't bad at all, very reminiscent of Janes, though I think they are a bit crisper. I initially thought that, too...so I'm guessing you either haven't set the graphics in-game to the 'ultra' quality, or haven't played Jane's Fleet Command for about as long as me! In discussing this, I happened to pull up the Steam page for JFC, and let me tell you... ... oof those graphics were BAD. I mean, just... REALLY BAD... This game is a very huge improvement in graphics over JFC. And I think the biggest win is that it actually works properly on widescreen monitors! - playing Jane's on a modern LCD panel is just...painful. Not just the awful graphics, but how much space you lose on the sides.

How about something Saturday night? Say, 9pm my time, which works out to 5pm on the Pacfic coast? We can meet up on TS and set something up. I have no idea if multiplayer is limited to 1v1 or if we can get something going with a group of people.

As far as I know, multiplayer is 1 vs 1 (that is what the game page says, anyway). I think I'd see something in the Q&A about the possibility of adding more sides later, but... Since the game is on Steam, might be easiest just to use the built-in Steam chat capability. This is me

I'll probably get this as I've been looking forward to this but did you see the trailer for it? Good grief what were they thinking. I swear I am not on the same page with the way this current world ticks.

Think you need to get more aircraft up faster, but you did almost pwn me into oblivion early in that second mission. Screenshots sent!

Reinstalled it and it still won't start. Never had this problem with a steam game before.

Reinstalled it and it still won't start. Never had this problem with a steam game before. And, again - any errors? Any other popup dialog boxes appear? Anything show up in Windows Event Viewer (application log) around that time? What video drivers are you using?

I click on play on my steam page and I see the little mouse cursor start to circle blue like its working and then absolutely nothing happens. No error messages or anything comes up. Just stays in windows and on the steam page.

try starting the game using a different shortcut.
right-click on the game in your Library list and choose Create Desktop shortcut and use that to try to start Naval War.
click on the Steam icon in your taskbar and then on Naval War: Arctic Circle to see if it will start that way.

I am used to play Dangerous Water with the LwAmi mod, so I am somehow surprised then disapointed with the quality, accuracy of NW:AC, especially with the communication work done before launching the game.
It is a nice game as an introductory point to the genre as much as Global Conflict Blue which is free, yet GCB is more accurate.
Too superficial for my taste.
