Apparently, the Nvidia GTX680 has a "turbo boost" feature (like the Intel and AMD CPUs). So, in effect, its running overclocked at 1006MHz (some indication that stock is 800MHz or less). I've noticed a historical propensity for reviewers to run OC Nvidia products against stock AMD products -- so OC Nvidia is not unexpected.
The tested HD7970 was running at stock 925MHz which is the bog-standard clock. We all know that HD7970 overclocks significantly above 1100MHz. Moreover, it is rumored that a 1300MHz+ off-the-shelf version is "waiting for the right moment" to make an appearance.
So, its still up in the air for me. I won't be surprised if Nvidia wins (good, it will lower AMD prices). But, so far, I've only seen what seems to be an "apples to oranges" comparison (i.e. Nvidia probably overclocked, AMD standard clock) -- using games that emphasize Nvidia's strengths (and Nvidia does have strengths).

i haven't seen anything that suggests more than 2 display pipelines yet either.

i haven't seen anything that suggests more than 2 display pipelines yet either. http://www.fudzilla.com/home/item/26391-nvidia-gtx-680-brings-multi-display-support Yeah after ATI has had this for like 3 years, it shouldn't be a big deal, but it is good for parity and competition and for making 3 monitor systems and "render each screen separately" game support more common and not just some Eyefinity luxury thing, now Nvidia just needs to add enough VRAM to make the multimonitor support actually worth it for most of us... hopefully the leaked 2GB VRAM is wrong or some larger VRAM cards are coming, I know I am waiting for that.

yeah, i think 3 screens would need more VRAM than GPU Power. as I think the limiting/bottle necking factor would be the frame buffer.
if the card can render 1080p w/ 8x+ FSAA/MSAA/FXAA/Whatever AA then 5760x1080 should be no problem on 0-4X FSAA.
I run games on my Card with AA Ramped up to the MAX, and notice no difference from setting it to 2x or Zero/Disabled.

Yeah but your card had 3GB VRAM I am pretty sensitive to jaggies and stuttering, though my recent adoption of console gaming this last year appears to be desensitizing me a bit after the initial shock of seeing those jaggies on Forza3, GT5, Forza4... partly because I play consoles on a 1080p monitor and not a TV. When I had my 5870s running 6040x1080 4x AA was exceeding the 1GB VRAM in certain games so I had to run with lower texture resolutions to run AA, otherwise I would get stuttering when VRAM was exceeded. For my next triple monitor card I want to make sure it had a good 2 year lifespan (5870s had almost 3 years for me), so I will be waiting for the 4GB VRAM 680s to come out from Zotac or hopefully the 690 to come out with more VRAM. BTW it looks like the first 680 is out in someone's hands 2GB VRAM confirmed: http://www.overclock.net/t/1231113/gigabyte-gtx-680-2gb-already-arrive-at-my-shop UPDATE: BTW not blown away by his first Heaven 3.0 bench results of of 54.1FPS at 1600x1200 with Extreme settings, I ran the same Heaven 3.0 bench on my sig system overclocked 560Ti/448 at same resolution/Extreme settings and got a 45.7FPS, admittedly it is very very early days and he may be CPU bound by that i3 cpu also he's not overclocked, can't wait until the usual tech sites release their bench tests.
Edited by kludger (03/19/12 12:44 PM) Edit Reason: Heaven 3.0 comparo

TBH my 8800 GTS was able to Drive 3 Displays, but for the desktop only (2 DVI, 1 Component or S-Video).
When booting Games only 1 display worked (DVI was usually the master), while Component and VGA were disabled, alot of programs crashed or closed with Copyright Block with Component Connection in use.
So They can say they can drive 4 displays, but can it run 4 displays as a unified display like AMD does.
or will you be limited to what i was, 1 game screen, 2 other screens still on the desktop/

Saying GTX680 release in 2 days -- March 22 -- $560 for the first ones (based on preorder pricing). Factory OC versions are a month or two away.
Meanwhile, HD7850 and HD7870 are at Newegg today ($260 and $360).

yeah, PCIe Card that converts it to a PINNed Bus on the back plate, hook cable to the pinned female socket on the back then the other end to a box about 14 inches long, with its own PSU, from there the box opens, you have the PCIeX16 slot (2 slots wide), power connectors, and SLI Connectors all inside. Slide card in connect 6 pin power, connect sli, close box, I/O area is open on back plate like the back of the case. Cases are stackable with connections on the outside for the SLI or XFire Bridges. uses 120v AC input to power the card separately from the system. I have the diagrams somewhere, i think nVidia is using some other type of interface. External box has Display on front showing INFO via USB Data connection.
