When is ROF going to be a great sim? You still can't have more than 60 in a server without major problems. You can't have any AI in the server when you have that many players, heck you can't put hardly any AI in anyways. You can hardly put any objects in a mission. After 3 years you don't have any sort of damage model in the cockpit. You can lawn dart your plane into the ground from 4000m and you still have an intact looking plane. You can't even kill a pilot without 4 bullets to the head. You have one map. You have to buy things like a fuel gauge or compass to even get the most simplistic of gauges in your plane. You have to buy gun sights that were factory equipped on planes to even get them. ROF is a dogfight game and that's all it will ever be. There's more types of vehicles (one small category of objects in IL2COD's FMB) than every single object combined in the ROF mission builder. You can't even change height of objects in the ROF ME, let alone manipulate them. You can't use any sort of programming code in missions. You can't even set draw distance. You can't limit the amount of a certain type of plane flying at once (but you can limit how fast they respawn????) It took 2.5 years for the 1st FM revision on a plane you paid $8 for on top of the already $39.99 game (yes to those new to the game it didn't used to be free). The AI in ROF are beyond abysmal. Granted default settings for AI in Cliffs are crap as well, but at least you can change them through the FMB and make them decent. In ROF you're stuck with retarded planes that only go around in circles. And SP, lol, you have a story to read as you fly with the most miserable AI ever in a flight sim. Then you realize that it's the same baron wasteland with no life at all (cause the game engine won't allow it) that you fly in mission after mission. Oh boy, what fun!!
I sure wish you were around when ROF started where there wasn't even an ongoing MP mode, where the master browser disconnected every 10 minutes, where you'd wait for 20 minutes in a COOP just to be able to finally play, only to have the master browser or server crash, then waiting another 10 minutes for the browser to come back up only to join the server, finally get in your plane to fly and have it happen all over again. ROF is such a failure of what it can't do in comparison it's not even funny. It took the ROF team 2 years to finally eliminate a CTD online, very similar to what we have in IL2COD right now at the one year mark. But the game engine will never be fixed. You'll never achieve a massive scale anything in ROF, because the game won't allow it. Our PC's won't allow what IL2COD is capable of...., yet. But it's capable. There's soo much more modeled in every aspect of cliffs compared to ROF in virtually every single category it's not even funny. You don't have a single object in ROF's ME that will destruct the ground in 3d. Say cliffs's embankments, trenches, AAA bunkers etc. These are all real 3d objects. In ROF you don't even have a trench in the editor let alone a 3d one lol, or heck even in the game. A WWI sim without any 3d trenches? Without any trenches at all available to the mission builders? Are you serious? lol
Yeah there's plenty of stuff broken in cliffs, but there's more working in it than ROF even has on the table. I have more objects at a single airfield in cliffs than what ROF could have in an entire MP mission without being kaput.
Please, I implore anyone that thinks ROF is such an amazing piece of software to make a map and fly through it like this. This is a cake walk in IL2/COD. You'll get every mission builder in ROF to laugh out loud upon asking. And the reason why is because the ROF engine is utter crap.
Here's one of many that just shows people racing through 1000's upon 1000's of objects placed in missions. Please, pretty please, I implore you to try to have any ROF guru try to make something like this. And when I mean something like this, just use objects from the mission builder in ROF to try to race through. Good luck lol.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mg8fC3APmfAI'm glad you buy into all the smoke that has been blown up your hind end. Not to offend you, but that's how most of society is and why advertising works for the masses/sheeple. Keep the blinders on tight m8. People that are begging for your money with "love" in the software industry are counting on it.
