Hmmm that may be my problem not cutting throttle at apex

At 15:00, its a stall turn at the top of a vertical climb. Basically, you go straight up, bleeding all your airspeed and energy, and right before you lose all forward momentum, kick the rudder hard one way. The plane will rotate it's nose back down with almost no forward(upward) movement. Also have to cut throttle before kicking rudder. Otherwise you will be put on your back by engine torque. IRL some adjust prop pitch for the same purpose. This is the 1st time I see hummerhead used in a combat situation since Warbirds back in 2001. In Il-2 it was more difficult not to be shot down in the top position. So true, forgot to type to chop the throttle.

Hammerhead, you better have eyes in the back of your head though. Time it wrong and you're holed cheese. Do it right and you turn the tables quickly.

Yes you certainly can leave yourself exposed, even presenting a stationary target for your adversary as you hang in the air

I tried to save myself last night, heading straight down in the 110 with no aeileron control and just using trim full up, at a fast rate of knots, tried to pull up using every thing the 110 had , my plan was to stall just above the ground with my tail pointing eartwards and then jump to land..didnt work ..i call my new manoeuvre the Failed Reverse Hammerhead..aka as The Wobbegong...

Hammerhead/stall maneuvers are almost never a good idea. He doesn't post the video where he did that and the Hurricane's buddy shot him out of the sky because he was hanging there like a kite.
If you know where EVERYONE is, and you're sure that are no other enemy AC about, then fine. That's rarely the case, and the best policy in general is to avoid such maneuvers.

That's what makes it so cool, I can count the number of times I've successfully used a hammerhead in combat on 0 fingers! He pulled off what everyone tells you not to do, and did it smooth.
Once on the banana forums, I stated I thought Mr. X was an average pilot, with great gunnery skills, I retract that, he's smart enough (read good enough) to know when he can pull a move like that and win with it.

Eh, most decent pilots know when they can pull it off, but refrain from it because there's a small chance they're wrong about the tactical situation and there's nothing a hammerhead accomplishes that we can't accomplish while retaining some energy.

Totally agree with you, which is why its even more spectacular. We're so ingrained into thinking speed=life, alt=advantage, this energy reserves etc, it's great to see something out of the box. I've performed every maneuver I can think of (although maybe only 1-2 hammerhead attempts in combat), and watched literally hundreds of videos. So much so that they all blend together. Even watching the RU duel tournament in its entirety, and perfect flying rarely equals thrills. Watching someone who is constantly accused of cheating because he's a fantastic shot, and a tactically sound flyer, pull that out of the hat, was quite surprising, and really enjoyable!
It's part of my point, those of us who know better won't pick that move, but he gave us a textbook example (if it were to be in the textbook) on how it might work if the stars align right.
