And with that shadylurker walks away spittle dripping off his head, the result of a thorough tongue lashing from Force10

I must say Force your post does seem a tad agressive smile

I can see possibilities Chivas, unfortunatley I can't play them. I guess I missed the part on the box that said "You'll enjoy watching this collect dust on your shelf for 1 to 2 years while we possibly make this a playable sim" (sarcasm off)

I agree COD system Performance, AI, and Commands have made offline play not worth the effort for some, but as I've said many times atleast our investment has made it possible we could all have the sim we want in the future. I don't see anyone else developing one or about to develop one, that we could support. In the mean time continually trashing the sim isn't going to make it happen any sooner. It isn't going to make the developer work any harder than they already are. It isn't going to make people any more disappointed than they already are. The only possible outcome of our continued negativity is that it could drive away enough sales to make the development untenable. I don't think anyone really believes that the developer is that incompetent, or has any ulterior motives, to screw us over. That said the development could fail for any number of reasons, but the investment hasn't been that significant, atleast financially for us. We aren't going to lose our house and our children aren't going to go unfed.

Has it been a year already, it only seems a few months ago Mrs Frog had to pop my tongue back in my mouth re:seizure of seeing that big yellow tiger moth on my screen?

A year? Wow. Time flies..

My goal was never to change Furbs, or any others naysayers mind, if they can't see the possibilities now, they never will, until Luthier takes them by the hand and shows them the finished product. I'm just pointing out to others sitting on the fence or new to the forums that its all not gloom and doom. Its very selfish on my part, the genre is so small, that any sale of COD, could keep the development in business long enough to finish the AI, Commands, FM, DM etc. I see no point in endlessly stating whats not finished in COD, as that has been painfully obvious to everyone including the developer for many months.

Have you considered that in an effort to provide consistent rebuttals it might be inadvertently exasperating the position of those that are feeling grumpy. Put another way, your strategy might be correct and your goal a noble one (to give people new to the game another perspective, so that they might buy it and keep it alive) but your tactics might be actively contradicting your goals - you may be making it worse?

The moaners might not be continuing to moan unless they have a foil to fight with. The arguing is actually the occupation if they can't get the game to work or are let down by it.

I don't mean this to be critical, and 90% of the discussion we have are all actually fairly nicely spirited, but it's something to consider if it's tempting to fight fire with fire.

Come this Friday, we'll all be enjoying the new patch anyway! smile

Originally I thought the main issues with COD, the performance optimization, AI, and Command issues, were eight months to a year away, but the graphic rewrite has set back the main issues a few months. The next performance patch and if not included hopefully the AI patch to follow soon after will make the sim playable by most people. Once the game engine is working properly, adding missing and unfinished features should come on a more accelerated schedule.

I understand your theory, but its been my experience that nothing will stop people from moaning. Do you actually think the moaning would have stopped six months ago if there had been no one posting anything positive. You would have had a forum filled with nothing but negative comments. How would that play for people looking for user information on the sim.

Is this true? I had read that there will not be an update this week as there are holidays later this week.

True, but it's worth considering that there are other things rather than point, counter-point posts i.e. we would still have forum content other than moaning. There are some good things that get posted here that aren't rebuttals (aars, videos, missions, screens etc), and they probably help more with people wandering into the CloD world for the first time and wondering if this isn't a re-enactment of The Somme in forum form. smile

Mathematically you may be doubling the size of the moan content with rebuttal - the new people would still see the argument anyway, plus an answered call just continues the conversation.

Anyway, it was just a thought - like I said, the vast majority of the discussions here are enjoyable and I wouldn't want a place that was 'moan-free' or 'happy-free' to either extreme. Reality is usually somewhere in the middle.
