My son and me watched Master and Commander and The Bounty yesterday.
Now we are looking for more similar naval movies.

IMO there are no movies as good as master and commander or the bounty..

i'm still looking for movies like that worth watching but the only thing that seems to sort of fit the bill is pirates of the caribbean and that's a big stretch

Master and Commander and The Bounty. PoTC if you want to have a good time. The Horatio Hornblower TV shows were very good as well.

I think the 1951 Hornblower movie with Gregory Peck was quite good as well.

On another level some Erol Flinn movies are quite entertaining as well

Also, there is the old Horatio Hornblower movie starring Gregory Peck in the lead role. Of course it's a 50's Hollywood movie with a love interest, but the battle scenes are decent and Peck always adds class to any movie he is in.

Other than that and all the old Errol Flynn romantic Hollywood swashbucklers from the 30's and 40's, there aren't a lot of movies depicting fighting age of sail.

Master and Commander is without a doubt the best ever done.

Cheers

The Horatio Hornblower series with Ioan Gruffudd, I think is your best bet to enjoy with your son. Modern and really in the same spirit as Master and Commander."

If he can tolerate older movies the B/W classics like "Two Years Before the Mast", "Treasure Island" and "Against All Flags" were fantastic seafaring adventure movies.

Ioan Gruffudd was trying to put together financing a new HH film to follow on from the TV series. Not heard anything more about it for a year or so now. I enjoyed the HH tv series but have not read any of the books.

Second the 50ies Hornblower movie. In German it`s "Des Königs Admiral" IIRC.

Billy Budd and the 1956 Moby Dick are also good. As far as the best though, you already watched it. Master & Commander.
