Six days into a N11/N17 career. Returning from a successful balloon busting mission, spotted a pair of unsuspecting E-IIIs trying to sneak back to their side of the line and sent one of them down. Nosed down to start my descent and looked into the distance to spot my airfield, using the crook in the river as a landmark. I think I see it. A nice, easy descent as I'm mentally patting myself on the back for the kill and for surviving 6 days in a career (pretty long for me), and wondering if I'm going to get a medal when I get on the ground.

I spotted a locomotive chugging along pulling its cars down the tracks on my side of the lines. Cool. It was at this moment, and I swear I'm not adding this for dramatic effect, I thought to myself, "Rise of Flight remains the singularly best overall flight sim ever produced. They really have addressed nearly every player concern, and added a gigantic pile of cool features since it was first introduced."

It was about 20 seconds later that the screen went to desktop and the little window in the middle said, "rof.exe has stopped working."

Odd. Just my experience/install but has been rock steady for 2 years now.
Make sure something else isn't trying to autoupdate on you, or antivirus turned off, etc.

Sounds like a case of Murphy's Law to me. Career Mode is pretty intensive going, there's so much packed into it that you'll get a few CTD's occasionally, especially if you are flying consecutive sorties. It's best to fly one or two and then load the game over again afterwards if you're having this problem regularly.

I wouldn't say that it's a "regular" occurrence... but it does not have to be very frequent in order to be VERY annoying.

A good rule of thumb is to reboot before you start RoF.

Ridiculous suggestion for a problem that plagues nearly everyone. Not being able to fly multiple career missions in a row without it crashing, not being able to switch from career to QMB without it crashing and having regular stutters in game whenever they spawn in an enemy. It's absurd and it should be fixed.

Maybe you should give my advice a try before you call it ridiculous? Every resource-hogging game I've ever played runs better after a fresh-reboot, including RoF.

Might be an exaggeration to say "nearly everyone" too. Like Bandy I haven't seen a CTD from RoF since the very early days of the game. I play in a vSquad too and most of us run RoF nicely with the exception of one member who has a problem. But his is more likely hardware related than anything else.

No CTD ever here. Unlike CoD where I had quite a few.

NEVER had any CTD with ROF, but I only have it since... uuh. One year?
