You were on the right track! Well done.
VV106 became 7175M instructional airframe and was parked in the grounds of RAF Cardington trade selection and recruit camp by July 1957 which is where I first saw it. A sign had been hammered into the ground proclaiming it to be a Supermarine Swift! It was the first in a line of development that led to the Swift via the Type 528 and 535.
VV106 has moved around quite a bit over the years, including Hamble but is now in the FAA museum near Yeovil. Stated as having been moved to Cardington in 1961 which is incorrect - unless it went back there.
