TrackIR was not integrated because, to quote what Joshua Howards wote,

´Grandparents and grandchildren will sit together and play these, and grow up with them over time´

they are only now discovering the magic of flight - give them time to grow and as the eco-system evolves TrackIR will naturally appear ...

Thanks for that tidbit Tom (and for LockOnFiles :)).

So the argument from the Flight team is basically 'hogwash'. The grandparents could still have played without TrackIR on their Xboxes and the guys on PCs who frequent these forums could still have run with TrackIR. Fail - talk about not understanding your audience or how online communities work. It's the guys with snazzy PCs who put up the great screenshots, which induces other people to take a look. No screenshots means no community and the snowball doesn't get started.

If Eagle Dynamics get their modding interface together (which they appear to be doing) that may become the best target for 3rd party creators (even of civilian stuff, eg the upcoming P-51D). Flight looks closed and short-sighted in comparison.

If MS does not take quick action to get TrackIR in MS Flight - they are fools....kissing off potential revenue - and of course turning off new customers who want an more realistic flight experience.

You would hope the developers are staying tune to the flight sim forums - but perhaps they are just tone deaf.

reason why they are tone deaf :

Quote:
Joshua Howard: When this started out, there was a real vision and a real drive to try to bring the magic of Flight to much larger audiences. Continuing to deliver to the existing audience was fine but frankly Flight is more magical than that and finding a way to do that was important

I was able to use the Mouse Emulation in the game with a few buggy behaviors namely my head spinning around and never being able to keep it centered but after a while I could manipulate it to some degree using the mouse wheel button on my X-52 to turn it on and off and it added immensely to the experience being able to look around and at the instruments, this is what it really needs to have or most of this community will thumb their noses at it early on and the early bird gets the worm as it were. I posted on the Blog that you can get to within the game and I hope everyone who has tried it will also, it's not FSX but it is easier to get into and not near as big an install so it could be a Gateway for some to go from Flight to other True Sims.

Can't read it unless a member of the beta team but if this Joshua guy thinks that's an answer to the Track Ir issue maybe he should work on a different genre, my Grandfather would want Track IR, My Father would want it and I want it, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. So far they aren't competing with the rest of the Sims out there, they can't they're offering very little at the moment.

Joshua is admittedly not a flight sim fan at all. He is a company man who has produced previous best-selling AAA games. Our day with high fidelity flight sims from Microsoft is done.

Rather than support Flight, now is the time to support the alternatives. Joshua Howard is part and parcel of the WRONG direction and expecting anything else out of him is futile.

The era is over.

Sorry Moa, but that is not correct. This interface has existed for some time now and is in use by FaceTrackNOIR, to name just one.

Sorry for the OT.

You triggered a memory for me here. My family hosts the Thanksgiving feast for the extended family every year. My brother-in-law is a pilot and we tend to get the simulators running when he visits. Two years ago when everyone was waiting for dinner, and I had a break between cooking duties, I fired up Blackshark and had my brother-in-law check it out. With TrackIR running, he was loving it; this was no surprise. But what was a pleasant surprise was how everyone else from Grandfather down to granddaughter suddenly became much more interested in my odd little hobby when they saw the TrackIR at work. At this point, several people were gathered in the office waiting their turn to try to fly. Of course, getting the helicopter off the ground wasn't nearly as easy as it looked for them, but that's not the point. The point is, TrackIR brought MORE interest in the game; it was absolutley not something that drove people away. (Well, actually, my niece called her dad a geek with the head gear on, but she was 16 at the time.)
