Well, he is off to school a 7am a full hour ahead opening time. Must want to be first in line to be searched. thumbsup

I feel old, going to school from 1967 to 1980. Never had a bomb threat in all those years. Times have sure changed.

There was no threat, afternoon break time we were all out in the playground when an almighty BANG was heard and when I looked round there was a cloud of smoke above the bicycle sheds with bits of wood twirling through the air.
This was in 1970 and in Scotland, some lunatic had tried to demolish the bike sheds with a pipe bomb. It was set by an ex pupil but I cannot remember why. It didn't cause much damage but it did cause a lot of trouble with police, firebrigade etc. being there and us all being interviewed, later we found out who it was that planted it and we found out how it was made it was in a section of bike frame and the explosive used was weed killer and sugar.

Troubled times back then.

From my sons High school website just posted.

Important Information

Today, March 2, all student coats, backpacks and purses were searched by staff or local law enforcement personnel. Nothing suspicious was found.

We consider the district is in an "all clear" status regarding the bomb threat note found on March 1.

We appreciate the cooperation and understanding by all parents and students.

Kids have been calling in bomb threats to school for at least 20 years.

A new one for me was when I got a free meal at Cracker Barrel because it had to be evacuated due to a bomb threat. I offered to pay on my way out but they insisted we got out asap.

Things are way different now...
A kid set off a pipe bomb and blew up several lockers and put a huge hole in the ceiling while I was going to High School. All that happened was there was a dust cloud for a while and they sent everyone back to class. (These were outdoor lockers.)

Back in the eighties I was financial controller of the Cairns Port Authority in Queensland.

We were buildind an airport in the mangroves with lots of opposition.

On Board Meeting days (twice) we had bomb warnings. All the Board Members...some elderly men...had to sit in the Sun whilst I checked out the building. The cops weren't interested, this well before 911.

Nothing changes.

Here's a twist on that riff.

Back in about 2003 when we were having all the anthrax scares, some low-grade moron decided that he didn't want to attend a domestic violence injunction hearing, and so he spread artificial sweetener all over the stairwell landing right outside what was at that time the DV unit courtrooms.

The result was an evacuated courthouse. The entire courthouse. For several hours. To the point we were all sent home for the day. I was right in the middle of a trial on a whole different floor when the alarms went off. And of course, when the reason for the evacuation was broadcast the defense lawyer in my case moved for an immediate mistrial, claiming that his client couldn't get a fair trial because of all the publicity, even though to my knowledge he wasn't involved. Pain. In. The. Posterior. I got that squelched but it was a hassle to do it, and the next day the defendant got nailed for a year in the county jail for his trouble. Sort of like the time I prosecuted a guy named "Outlaw" and the defense lawyer moved the court to let him refer to the guy with a pseudonym because "Outlaw" was too prejudicial. That one didn't make it over the bar of justice either, but I had to waste a lot of time dealing with the motion. And people wonder why the justice system costs so much.

They never caught the guy who spread the sweetener around, either.
